(31,464 posts)Two things come to mind; first, she runs a private business and shouldn't be forced to make a cake for anyone. Before you go making comparisons to lunch counters and Selma, this isn't the same. There are other bakeries, and other ways to make the baker pay for her bigotry (boycotts and negative publicity come to mind).
Which brings me to my second point; I'd be pretty leery about what went on in the kitchen after I forced the woman to bake me a cake she didn't want to make. What "special ingredients" were going into my cake? And why would I even want to reward this woman with one penny of my money? She doesn't deserve my business, or anyone else's for that matter.

(31,464 posts)I didn't want to watch because I thought it was just another Fox clip, and therefore entirely predictable. Pakman provided some excellent commentary.
That said, while I still feel the baker is a reprehensible bigot, I don't understand why he should be forced to bake this cake anymore than a kosher deli owner should be forced to sell non-kosher foods simply because a customer demands it. Find another deli. Find another baker. While it may not be a perfect analogy, one thing is pretty clear: Support businesses which support equality, don't reward them with your hard-earned money.

(16,038 posts)I have heard. Who gives a shit if the guy doesn't want to bake a cake for anyone for any reason. Businesses can refuse service to anyone they wish...Their loss if they are morons about it. The commentators act like the Baker doesn't have the right to decide what he wishes to do or not do..that is idiotic imo..
Not to say the Baker isn't an idiot too...He has that right. I am a pro Baker and would write anything on a cake someone wishes to pay me for...making a "happy birthday jesus" cake today in fact..silly? Yep..who cares?

Example: Should or should not a pharmacist that doesn't believe in birth control be made to fill a woman's prescription for birth control pills? Etc, etc, etc.

(1,333 posts)and the whole thing backfires on them. You are the one who is supposed to be hulled off to jail for standing up for equality not the other way around.
Please do not make this guy into some kind of a martyr.
