1975 I believe it was. I was finishing up with my basic training at Fort Jackson SC. There were two music stations in town back then, one country western the other black R&B. This then young white boy couldn't stand country music so obviously I listened to the R & B station.

Interesting tidbit about the cover:

In fact, Akim, whose mother is Chinese, told The Root that she remembers going to the drugstore with her father to buy makeup so she could be a "little browner for the album cover."

"I don't think he wanted anyone to look at it and for me to be questionable," she said.
