If You Could Would You Buy It?

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/vehicles/2014/bmwi/bmwi_i8redirect.aspx

BMW has a new hybrid car, the i8. The i8 has a very nice design and is very powerful, but it also has a very high price. According to the video above it goes from 0-100 in 4.4 seconds. According to the BMW website it goes from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. The website also points out that the car has a combined power output of 362hp, gets about 92mpg, and is fully charged in one and a half hours with a 220 volt level 2 charger. The price for the car starts at about $136,000-$137,000.

From the description of the video on YouTube, for that $136,000+ price you could get at least one
Telsa maybe two and you could get at least one Porsche 911. There are a number of lower level cars one could buy with that money. In addition, one could put a very large down payment on a nice house; in some places one could fully pay off a house with that money. Finally, one could finance a college education with that money.

So, if you could afford the car, or if someone gave you the money to buy and maintain the car would you buy it?

It probably doesn't come with a charger (sold separately) or cup holders, and the cost of charging it would be too much.

I for one would not buy that car at my current income bracket, *cough*. But I'm sure if someone's
got multi acre farm full of "Benjamin tree's" going ripe, someone could justify it one way or another.

as long as it works properly, is safe, clean, and can get me from Point A to Point B. If I had that money to spend on a car, I'd rather spend it towards a house, a drivers license, a less expensive car, and a plane ticket to be able to see my girlfriend overseas. Besides, I wouldn't want to have something like that and stick out like a sore thumb, anyway, and be concerned with people plotting to jack my ride.

unless it was the only way to escape from Galtville and I could drive somewhere that it could be turned into something sustainable.

Because I would have to buy a crane to get me out of it. That's assuming I could get into it in the first place.

As if a car's "beauty" had anything to do with its performance or fuel efficiency. Oy. Would I buy one if I had the cash? In a word? No. In several words? I'd take the 136k that would be wasted on such a car, pretty as it is, and employ 2-3 people. Buying a pretty just isn't worth the livelihood of 2-3 people for an entire year. But, that's my opinion.

..that's pretty good looking for a BMW, a company that seems to pride it's self on boxy looking cars that offer dependability over style. Unlike some here who apparently see automobiles as a necessary evil, I absolutely love cars and given a half billion dollar lottery win, I'd be glad to add that to my 15 bay Malibu garage.

The rest of the space would be filled with British supercars and antique American iron. I'd rather make passersby drool while I'm at the side of the road awaiting a tow than motor about in a marvel of Teutonic engineering.

It looks to me like the other bmw hybrids are running around 30 mpg, and even the Prius is only around 50 mpg, so 92 mpg seems... too good to be true. I wonder if they are fudging those numbers based on being a plug in hybrid.

That said, I would love to have a 93 mpg car. If I had unlimited cash, sure. That's better than anything else Ive seen available, and its not ugly. But Id rather have a more practical car with 93 mpg. I like having cargo space.

and the thing is overpriced. Plus, it doesn't look like it's got much room for fleeces.

Cars are just transportation to me, I don't have a penis that needs enlarging.
