The death of 46-year-old Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman is truly a tragedy. But the most tragic part of it all is that his death could easily have been prevented.

treating addiction as a medical problem would help in the US. I don't think that the experience in other countries would necessarily predict the outcome in the US. Our culture is unique.
