(403 posts)I am sure there are more scary stories out there than I can imagine. The abuse from the leadership of this organization at every level has had a negative impact on just about everyone I know.

(12,272 posts)Mormonism requires that the men marry young and start producing more Mormons. Those boys won't be so quick to marry Molly if they can get some relief playing solo.

(99,915 posts)This is the same cult that willard the Draft-dodging-coward belonged to that enabled him to evade the Vietnam draft that me and MY generation were sent off to be slaughtered in?? They have the audacity to use a war scene in their pathetic analogy of helping one another??
Such a shameless, disgusting cult of fools. I have lowered my disgust level for mormanisms.

(348 posts)I think you mean your disgust of Mormons has been increased...maybe....way to go...unreal how democrats can be war heroes and they're cut down and repugs have a holiday cycling around France and that's ok....even not finishing mickeymouse flight training in the sea scouts is considered serving the country....it's all so bizarre...

(6,699 posts)The mormonistic cult IS definitely a religion that supports it's flock in avoiding military service. Not sure where you are getting your information from, but the fact that cheney and limpballs got away with avoiding the draft has very little to do with the pacifist religion that enables their flock to avoid service in times of draft, etc.
You can try to hide behind the Catholic, protestant, Muslim and other mythologies, but mormonism and a few others are sure fire ways to escape an ugly requirement the rest of this country faces when it comes to building up fodder for the almighty military meat grinder.

Just let the kid rub one off if he wants to.
How much repressed guilt do these up-tight, tight-assed scolds what people to internalize for the rest of their lives? Talk about actively trying to create neurotic adults. Just unbelievable!

(58 posts)By the time I was 13 I knew these people were crazy. I don't use that term lightly. Did you know that all bad people of color are descended from good white people. It's right there in the Book of Mormon. Also, Jesus came to the new world after he was resurrected. When I asked the ward president about some doubts that I had, he informed me that asking questions meant that I was going to hell. Dead serious. The Mormon faith is really twisted and when looked at critically, I can't understand why anyone still believes. The up side though, is that when you see one religion as whackadoo, it makes it easier to see them all coo coo for cocoa puffs.

(793 posts)But my family kind of only subjected me to the Methodist Church. That was bad enough but wasn't really too creepy.
Then when I was in my mid twenties. I had lots of family Morman folks who wanted to tell me all a bought my family history. It was B/S. They were just looking for bodies.
Oh and Malteil, welcome!

(8,821 posts)I think they pretend to believe what they're told to believe by the people they're afraid to disobey.

(58 posts)Others though, the true believers... they really freak me out sometimes. You can tell the two apart. The pretenders get angry when you challenge them. The true believers. When I was second or third grade, my mom sent me to drop off the mail at the post office. That was cool and a lot of responsibility, right. I got cornered in the post office by this crazy woman asking me if I had accepted Christ as my savior. I was like 6 or 7 and had this crazy person inches away from my face all wild eyed. I told my mom and my parents knew who the woman was and she was harmless. But of course I told her yes just so I could get out of there alive... I was 6 or 7. I know that's an extreme example, it's just that the true believers have some crazy going on. That ecstatic wild look.

(8,821 posts)Maybe they're just trying to convince themselves their religion isn't all just fairy tales and superstition. Those who won't openly profess to believe as they openly profess to are seen as a dangerous challenge, a threat to conformity with the doctrine.
Screw that nonsense. Life is too short to waste on such crap.
