Fox offers it's so called news channel to cable companies free of charge.
Rupert makes enough money to cover any loses.

CNN and MSNBC on the otherhand, even though their parent companies
could do the same, they are greedy enough to charge cable companies
for their programming, thus charging us.

I am shocked at how many in the medical profession are right wing as compared to 20 years ago (~99% liberals then). My guess: mostly because the historically relied-upon radio stations and Fox is so successful at 'framing' complicated issues as political talking points. This whole compliance with corporate or you're out is rampant. Fox does it with such gleefulness. So everyone is afraid to discuss current events in the work place...as we did once upon a time. 2 separate realities.

my grandfather was a Methodist minister in Brook Park, OH. That is a suburb of Cleveland. It had the Chevy plant, and Parma had the Ford plant. Almost every one in the church worked at one of them, and were union workers. My grandfather was a conservative, and I remember that he and the others could have discussions on politics, but even though they tended to disagree they could hold rational discussions about their beliefs. Rush, and Newt Gingrich, changed everything. Now if people disagree with you, you are an enemy and un-American. The whole thing is poison. When people start talking politics here at work, I just leave the room. Nothing I can say, or facts I present, will change their minds.

Who cares what people believe. I want to hear what they know backed up with facts. You'll never get that on Fox. You just get an isolated story about some crazy person that they try to parade as news. All driven by the urge to control public opinion rather than to inform. Mush Lumpballs and all of his crazy after births on radio still follow that same M.O. They have effectively demonized anyone one they want using a more than ignorant listening audience. I turn off that crap wherever I see or hear it. When someone complains, I explain to them it is necessary for my mental health and well-being. There is nothing fair or balanced about their presentations.

Don't accuse him of being an imbecile or having a political agenda. Just state that you feel his choice of programming is offensive to some people and that you are more likely to patronize his establishment if he makes a choice that is less hostile to the views of so many Americans. Chances are that the owner or manager never even considered that this might offend a lot of customers.

And if the business doesn't change, take your business elsewhere.

The way I've always solved an unwanted noise problem has been with a Walkman/Discman/iPod throughout the years, along with about a $75-100 set of noise cancelling cans.

Yes, music at a fairly high volume is noise. That's true enough. But if it's good music that you really like it will just become a relaxing ambient sound that you can think just fine through. At least that's how it's always worked for me.

Last Dec I was in an outpatient orthopedic surgery waiting room. They had Fox blaring before surgery. I asked the nurse running the waiting room to please turn the channel. I gave her a few minutes, and she didn't get to it- so I unplugged the TV. No one else in the waiting room said a word. When she finally got around to changing the channel she couldn't figure out why the remote wouldn't work! As a paying customer I got what I needed -no Fox before surgery! It promotes healing.

complain, very loudly, that Fox News just spews lies and hate. I point out that Fox viewers score worse than people who do not watch the news at all on current events. I want the people in the waiting room to understand that the brainwashing they do is being reinforced by the doctors at the facility. I also make sure I voice my displeasure to the doctor. I tell them that I do not appreciate the attempted brainwashing. It makes me even less sympathetic to their concerns, not that I was very sympathetic in the 1st place. Being a physician is a profession, not a job, there is a difference. It means they must advocate treating the sick first, not just the ones who have insurance. As an attorney we are encouraged, and in some states, mandated, to do pro bono work. Under Obamacare they still get paid, but they worry they may not be able to make that 3rd vacation home mortgage!
This is working, it pays to make your objections heard! Now, one place I go took out the TVs and replaced them with local photography. The staff told me the doctors had an argument about it and decided that the complaints and loss of patients were not worth it. I have noticed that most of them have switched to CNN.

I bring earplugs and a book. If I had the option of changing the channel, I'd probably switch to Asian or Latino soaps. I have no idea what's going on in those shows, but they all seem to be surreal, with pirates and ninjas crashing parties, and rich people going bonkers at funerals. They still make more sense than Fox News.

I stayed at a Holiday inn in Minnesota and a Quality inn in Portland that had blocked MSNBC, in both cases I let them know this would be the last time we would stay with them. I also made sure that the surveys were filled on line for the main chain offices. We have to let them know we are paying attention and some of us can vote with our pocketbook. I'm no longer going to shrug it off.
