(10,893 posts)who is from there, so I was following this story pretty closely. It's terrible what has been going on out there, and how their government is so corrupt. It sounded like all the protesters wanted was for the government to agree for the Ukraine to become part of the EU, but the people in charge don't want that.
Anyway, she told me that she had to move out of the country because of how unsafe it was getting, and ever since then, the two of us lost contact (we met on a site where exchanging personal info isn't allowed). This situation is just sad from both a political and a personal standpoint.

(219 posts)I have asked my Daughter to come back to the states for a few weeks or months. She is a social media manager for an international company so she can travel anywhere as long as she has a connection.
I am crossing my fingers she stays safe. She assures me that she is and has an emergency plan in place should things get too violent.

(6,045 posts)Hopefully they get free from the Putin controlled government that is ruining their lives!!
As I talked to my daughter today she and those that she is close too... are hoping now that the U.S. and E.U. will now start isolating Ukraine and putting pressure on the government to do the right thing.
We can only hope and pray...

(8,821 posts)The fact is that photo is actually of a riot policeman who was hit by a protester's Molotov cocktail. The full photograph was posted last night and shows the policeman's badge on the arm of his jacket:
If the protesters' cause is just, and I happen to think it is, surely we don't need to indulge in altered photographs to make them seem sympathetic?

(8,821 posts)I also hope people like her achieve their goals of a better, more honest government for Ukraine. May they manage to do so without further counterproductive stupidity on the part of that faction within the protest movement who seem more set on destruction and violence than reaching a successful conclusion.
Compromise and negotiation are much more useful tactics. They leave fewer widows and orphans as well.

(219 posts)I talked to her by phone today... she is safe and wants everyone to know that Kiev is a big city and the violence is really centered in one small part.
She and her boyfriend were about to sit down and watch a documentary just to change their focus for a bit. She says it is mentally draining to see all the negativity day in and day out...
