Aurora Borealis - Feb. 18

The northern lights came out to play on Feb. 18, lighting up the skies over Interior Alaska from sunset to the early morning hours. Readers sent in their favorite aurora photos. More are coming.

Manbharat Singh Dhadly took this photo from his office on the seventh floor of the Geophysical Institute on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. He called it an aurora twister or snake (some people see a resemblance to the sign of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named from the Harry Potter series.)
