The Simpsons enter the political fray for the first time with a slam of H.W. Bush.

The year was 1992 and The Simpsons, having been on air for only a few seasons, rarely delved into political matters - especially presidential politics. That all changed when, during a campaign speech, President George H.W. Bush took a shot at our favorite yellow family by saying America needed to be more like the Waltons and less like The Simpsons.

Then came one of the biggest burns in American political history.

Bart Simpson drops the hammer and, more than anything, really did reinforce the idea that it was The Economy Stupid.
