Thom Hartmann: Fukushima: The Story of a Nuclear Disaster

David Lochbaum, Union of Concerned Scientists, joins Thom Hartmann. Today is the third anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. What has government hidden to us about the events of March 11, 2011? And how can we prevent more such meltdowns in the future?

I'm not impressed with David Lockbaum, on the basis of this interview, though I grant that sometimes people in such a position as he is in--a powerful position and, in his case, sort of a combination of diplomacy and science--can do good by shutting up. I do think this is true, sometimes. Yet, yet...our environmental situation is SO BAD, and especially bad with regard to nuclear power, that somebody with power and a platform needs to start yelling their head off about it.

We MUST stop this. Nuclear power is TOO DANGEROUS. He claims he is trying to make it "safer" (and thus won't express a view on getting rid of these horrendous time-bombs). There IS NO SAFE WAY to generate and utilize nuclear power on this planet. Period. End of story. We must shut them down. We must!

The powers-that-be are EXPERIMENTING on US! How can we make it "safe"? Oh, oops, not there, not at Fukushima! Not in British Colombia, which just got some Cesium-134 from Fukushima! Oops! Sorry, kids, you'll be safer NEXT TIME!

Jeez.

We are playing a game of chance with the lives of millions...each day the odds of a loss increase. Stop the game and shut down these death generators...we need sustainable, clean energy. We have plenty of wind and sun, let's employ tons of folks and straighten out this Game of Death that is sickening. We deserve better.
