Watch This Doctor Totally School An Anti-Obamacare Senator On Health Care

Dr. Danielle Martin, vice president at the Women's College Hospital in Toronto, totally schooled Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) on health care Tuesday.

Martin was in Washington D.C. to answer questions from a U.S. Senate subcommittee led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on different health care systems around the world. When Burr asked Martin "on average how many Canadian patients on a waiting list die each year," she answered with a fact about the American healthcare system.

Dr. Martin and Sen. Sanders.

As for Ms. Pipes - she needs to take a look at what is happening in America when you haven't got any insurance or means to pay and see how long the waiting list is.

And yes there will always be people who want to "jump the line" and get preferential treatment and they will pay a premium to do so.

Canada - I hope you never lose the way your healthcare is handled. I listen enviously to how people are being treated (both when they are sick and when they are well). Go Canada!

4. Sally Pipes: SHILL ALERT (just FYI)
Thu Mar 13, 2014, 09:12 PM
Mar 2014

Just FYI, there are two paid shills who Republicans usually invite to these dog and pony shows. One is Sally Pipes, who runs a paid, right-wing 'think tank' (aka Propaganda outlet) whose soul purpose is to put out propaganda trashing single payer healthcare systems with cherry picked data. No surprise she appeared here.

The other standard paid shill the Republicans usually invite is Dr. David Gratzer, who was trained as a psychiatrist in Canada, wrote a (self-published) book about how shitty the Canadian healthcare system is WHILE HE WAS STILL A MEDICAL STUDENT, and had no experience of it; and (like his commrade Charles Krauthammer) decided that there was a lot more money to be made as a paid propagandists than there is as a doctor; and moved to NY to do that before ever having seen a single patient.

Gratzer is usually their token Canadian doctor that they always invite to trash the Canadian healthcare system. I don't understand why they didn't invite him! They must be slipping.

I can only conclude that Gratzer is affraid to show up at any hearing where Sanders is present, because the last time he was invited to a hearing with progressives present, Dennis Kuchinich ripped him a new asshole.

Watch this video of Kuchinich taking the little turd apart. It'll make your day.

5. So, 45,000 is .1 percent of Canada's population.

And, .24% of Americans went abroad for procedures in 2007. I'm trying to find more recent statistics, but I looking at this Wiki entry, if the number increased 150,000 in one year, I would imagine it had to be over a million recently.

From Wikipedia:
"A McKinsey and Co. report from 2008 found that between 60,000 to 85,000 medical tourists were traveling to the United States for the purpose of receiving in-patient medical care.[78] The same McKinsey study estimated that 750,000 American medical tourists traveled from the United States to other countries in 2007 (up from 500,000 in 2006).[79] The availability of advanced medical technology and sophisticated training of physicians are cited as driving motivators for growth in foreigners traveling to the U.S. for medical care,[78] whereas the low costs for hospital stays and major/complex procedures at Western-accredited medical facilities abroad are cited as major motivators for American travelers.[79] Also, the decline in value of the U.S. dollar is offering additional incentive for foreign travel to the U.S., although cost differences between the US and many locations in Asia are larger than any currency fluctuations."

In regards to Canadians (Canucks) going across the line to receive health care (usually surgeries)
There are waiting lists in Canada for some surgeries that are not life threatening. If any surgery is needed to save your life
now, it is done!

Canadians with money prefer to have their healthcare looked after NOW if not SOONER. The ones I know about are knees, hips etc.
That is fine the more of them that do this the faster the wait times for people that can't afford it.

Would those same Canucks prefer to have the American health system over ours? I highly doubt it and if anyone said yes I guess they are so rich that money is no object and they really don't need any health care company.

When Canucks visit the USA we LOAD UP on extra health insurance just in case something happens.

I know of one fellow who had a heart attack while visiting in the USA and the family paid for a private jet to get him back to Canada to have his surgery.

So you see there are all kinds of stories.

Bernie Sanders is right about the knowledge Canadians have about the USA. We are taught a great deal about the USA in school. Anything that is significant that happens in the USA each day is running across our Media in print as well as on TV, Radio etc. We also have all the major networks from the USA coming across our TV day in and out.

Many Canadians also went to help out with President Obama's election. There of course are some that don't care for him here but the majority LOVE HIM, me included!!!!

17. What Burr didn't mention about Premier Danny Williams was that
Fri Mar 14, 2014, 03:47 AM
Mar 2014

his Canadian cardiologists told him he didn't NEED that valve operation, it wouldn't help, and therefore the Canadian healthcare system wouldn't pay for it. But neither would a U.S. health insurance HMO. If your doctor says it's unnecessary, they won't pay for it. Of course, if you've got deep pockets, and can afford to pay for an unnecessary procedure yourself, you're free to do so, which is what Williams did.

It doesn't change the fact that the procedure was developed at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre in Toronto (http://www.uhn.ca/PMCC), and they have a higher success rate using it than the Miami hospital that Williams went to.

But yeah, they used him as propaganda, and there is always a back story. Thank you for that.

That doc was sure prepared. The stats pretty well speak for themselves, and she did a good job with them.

The shill needs to work on her delivery, because she was clearly a shill

I like their system, a lot, from what I can tell. Makes me think we should save 20% tomorrow in the most expensive system in the world that doesn't really deliver that much value by lopping off the insurance cos. Don't need 'em, don't want 'em, not happy about being told to do business with them. Gov can do it as good or better and way cheaper.

Get a better ROI nearly immediately. And once we got rid of those greedy bastards the prices for everything else could start coming down. Or we could make it come down.
