I had to memorize this speech. I moaned and groaned about the assignment but I learned it....along with our other memorizations.

And then I was watching the film "Remember the Titans" and they came to the scene where he was running the team as punishment and they stopped and Denzel Washing gave the most eloquent speech about the Civil War and Gettysburg. I have since toured many sites and have a deep appreciation for what history teaches us. Those lines frequently pop into my thoughts. We have had great leaders that did what was right for the people. We are now governed by pitiful excuses for leaders.

sometimes it is very comforting to have those bits and pieces of verse to carry you through difficult times...
