GMO 'Terrorists': Russia seeks criminal punishment for bio-tech companies

RT · Published on May 17, 2014

Genetically modified food or 'Frankenstein food' is accused of dangerously toying with nature. Its potential negative health effects are making Russia take steps. A draft law submitted to the Russian parliament seeks to impose punishment up to criminal prosecution to producers of genetically-modified organisms harmful to health or the environment. RT's Egor Piskunov reports.

- GMO plant micro-RNA has been found to crossover into mammalian serum and plasma are actively secreted from tissues and cells and can serve as a novel class of biomarkers for diseases, and act as signaling molecules in intercellular communication. This has never been known to happen before and it changes everything. We're not just eating vitamins, nutrients and minerals, but plant information codes as well.

Possibly altered plant information codes. And no one knows what it's telling our cells to do......

Abstract

Our previous studies have demonstrated that stable microRNAs (miRNAs) in mammalian serum and plasma are actively secreted from tissues and cells and can serve as a novel class of biomarkers for diseases, and act as signaling molecules in intercellular communication. Here, we report the surprising finding that exogenous plant miRNAs are present in the sera and tissues of various animals and that these exogenous plant miRNAs are primarily acquired orally, through food intake. MIR168a is abundant in rice and is one of the most highly enriched exogenous plant miRNAs in the sera of Chinese subjects. Functional studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrated that MIR168a could bind to the human/mouse low-density lipoprotein receptor adapter protein 1 (LDLRAP1) mRNA, inhibit LDLRAP1 expression in liver, and consequently decrease LDL removal from mouse plasma. These findings demonstrate that exogenous plant miRNAs in food can regulate the expression of target genes in mammals.

To find out that somewhere out there, scientists are finally starting to find out that when you eat genetically modified food, it can actually affect you. It also gives an added boost to that old saying 'You are what you eat.' Genetically.

Interesting that in this specific case, the introduced RNA acts to prevent the removal of 'bad cholesterol' from the blood stream. Are we on the brink of finding out that the obesity epidemic might be related to GMO? I look forward to more studies, now that people have figured out where to look for alterations in tissue from animals that eat GM foods.

Since the start, the cry from the pro-GMO crowd has been that because the tests done had failed to show direct links between GM foods and biological dysfunction, these foods were 'safe' for ingestion. I also am curious to see how they'll attempt to discredit this study and the others that will no doubt start being performed along similar lines. My guess is that they'll followed established routes, and continue the denialism patterns used by big tobacco and big fossil fuel to fight against the public learning that tobacco use causes cancer and human use of fossil fuels drives climate change.

3. Fungi and Animal Kingdom Cells have a lot of feeding cell chemistry in common even though many Fungi

species have other compounds that are poisonous to Animalia cells. Fungi have evolved a way to overcome the poisoning effects of Plantae cells. Lovastatin is one such cholesterol lowering drug or compound produced by fungi.

5. All very well......

...however, all these plants that we've been eating all these many, many millennia, evolved right along side with us. They know us, we know them. Biologically. I prefer Mother Nature as my doctor and laboratory chief. The burden of proof that GMO's aren't poison are on the makers, not me nor anyone else. In other words, show me the data (that doesn't exist). And I damn sure have a right to know what I'm eating. Even Obama agrees with that though he still appointed Monsanto to run the FDA.

Just because some smart-guy comes along and starts rearranging things to make a plant that can withstand poisons, they still have no real clue as to what goes where, nor why it's there, within that plant's DNA/RNA. What may have begun as pure scientific curiosity many years ago, has now been co-opted by the money-men into schemes to squeeze us more. The whole county's screwed because of this cognitive-dissonant blindness. It's all about the money. GMO's, like pesticides, we're created to increase the profit margins of the corporations (and investment bankers) who own them. Period.

- And they don't care how many bodies they have to step over to get it.

6. Where, in that article, does it ever refer

to GMOs? Exogenous =/= GMO. MiRNA =/= GMO.

This is a study published in 2011, and has NOTHING to do with GMOs. If Russia wants to base policy on junk science, let them do it. They already base policy on bullshit, why not keep at it.

7. Fascinating if Russia could be world's largest exporter of Organic Foods.

Thought that was interesting in the report. Maybe it's fantasy...but, might fit into boosting their exports so they aren't so dependent on Oil & Gas exports. If the report is true that the have soil that is uncontaminated enough to begin such an effort.

They did a Documentary on GMO's on RT last year and it was well worth the watch. So, this isn't a new attack against GMO's that Putin is putting out there just to get publicity. It was when I first started watching RT and was surprised to see such an informative report on GMO's coming from what people call "Putin Owned State TV." I wish that we had Documentaries here on GMO's with Scientific Studies. Maybe we have done Documentaries in the USA though...but, if so...I missed them.

RT also did a fantastic Documentary on "Bee Colony Collapse."

8. Yes, I saw the documentary on GMOs you're referring to.

The thing is, the people who lambast RT are the same people I've never seen speaking out against Obama's drones killing children.

And they don't seem to see the insidiousness and counter-productive acts of the WH when it gives appointments to corporate flacks and bankers over those who might represent ''the people.'' But they can tell you every line that's in the ACA that's a godsend to someone they know was helped because of it.

Well, that's wonderful. They know all about Obamacare, but don't seem to care to know about what's making people so sick and requiring this great healthcare as much as they do.

Maybe it's the food? The water? The air? Hello?

- This is what we've devolved to and it ain't pretty.......

10. They object to having Round UP and pesticides levels in their children's blood.

Not junk science at all. It is a fact that most Americans have a continual level of common pesticides and weed killers in their blood plasma.

Here is one abstract of one study that measured pesticide levels in fetuses and new mothers. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22683313

And here is an article about the studies written in more layman terms:http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/weed-whacking-herbicide-p/

Many studies have since replicated these studies many, many times. Even studies that claim Organic foods are not healthier do admit they lower the level of pesticides and herbicides in your blood. I wish America would do away with GMOs too because you can't avoid them anymore, they are everywhere. The specific GMO alteration may or may not be dangerous to ingest but the Round Up they drench most GMOs with is associated with many, many illnesses and we all have it in our blood now.

Instead of creating a plant that can survive with minimal water and with extreme temperatures, corporations create a plant that can survive when doused with a deadly poison.

Now we can all eat poison drenched vegetables. Thanks Monsanto for the free serving of poison with my meal.
