The whole series is very interesting.
Pt 3 goes into the rise of Andrew Carnegie and his rivalry with John Rockefeller of Standard oil to be the richest man in America. Carnegie hires a ruthless a guy named Frick to do his dirty work for him.
Pt 4 is mostly about how Frick caused the Johnstown Flood which killed over 2000 people and how he made his workers work 12 hour days 6 days a week to boost production. They called a shutdown strike and Frick called in the Pinkertons who massacred the workers. Carnegie was conveniently in Scotland all summer trying to avoid the whole thing.

(36,649 posts)Construction workers, assembly line & factory workers, farmers, slaves ... these are the people who built America. Not the money-grubbing plutocrats & the Gilded Age robber barons.

(18,124 posts)and along with all the 'builders' you mentioned, I can never forget the genocide perpetrated, by the 'money grubbing plutocrats and robber barons' against the First Americans to get this building of a country started. By the way, the money grubbing plutocrats and robber barons are back. They are called huge mega banks and huge corporate powers that hold sway over every aspect of our system. Plus 1000 to you. Got me thinking, again.

(8,392 posts)Yes, the series discusses their ruthlessness, but it does so in a manner, and in a tone, that seems to applaud it all on balance. Ugh.
