A new report out says Denmark is the happiest place on Earth - and America isn't even close. So here we have Denmark - a nation that taxes at higher rates than we do in the United States - gives basic health care and free education to all its citizens - hasn't sold their elections off to the highest bidder - doesn't place any importance on arming their citizens against each other - isn't involved in any wars abroad - and has 72% of its workers unionized. Hearing those stats - Republicans' heads would explode. Yet - Denmark is the happiest nation on the planet. We're the nation that wrote the right to pursue happiness into our first founding document, our Declaration of Independence. Maybe we should take our own advice and learn a few things from Denmark.

(3,576 posts)They are also more financially upwardly mobile and most importantly not afraid to walk outside at night. Jesus himself was plainly a socialist. Forget republicons and their wave the flag, jingoist, bullshit, everything they ever told you about freedom and capitalism is a lie. I wish I could vote for Thom, but much better to vote straight Democratic.

(5,023 posts)We are working to pay off a mountain of debt, basically, indentured servants, so how could anyone happy?
And who got the money? Republican millionaires and billionaires using their financial instruments and war machines. Followed by their lackies.
Nothing on the Republican agenda addresses haplessness. It's totally focused on making the rich richer. And making the lackies believe that in another life this will somehow benefit them. Intelligent people would demand fairness, not empty promises that wealth will one day trickle down to them, when even if that were true, would not happen in several lifetimes, and in reality will never happen since the rich do not give anything away, but instead seek the lowest price for everything, including us.

(140 posts)...ways one can become wealthy in this world, and the tormented methods it trains down to that individual... never worth the price of the soul that's being lost.
Repugnants are beyond shame. They wish us all to bath in their scorched earth treatment. it's unfortunate ignoring *them* forces us down the ignorant road as well - a lesson I constantly struggle with myself

(853 posts)Although most of the countries on your map where in the top ten they weren't all Denmark, it's a map of the Nordic countries, which include Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland, although Greenland is left out even though it's part of the kingdom of Denmark.
It can happen to the best, it was only a few weeks ago that John Stewart was told off by Neil deGrasse Tyson for having a globe rotating in the wrong direction in the Daily Show's graphics.
Anyhoo keep up the good work.
