(10,558 posts)Takei/Stewert no brainer for a KnR but this is something quite a bit more special than I could have expected. I did not know this about Mr. Takei. Definately recommended.

(4,473 posts)That shows true patriotism on the elder Mr. Takei's part. Not the jingoistic flag-waving that often passes for patriotism, but actual and obviously deeply felt love of one's country -- even after the government did a major wrong to him and his family. I don't know if I could do the same thing if something similar happened to me.

One of the more interesting things about history is how things ebb and flow. Takei goes from the horrors of internment camp and life as an outsider due to sexual orientation to his status today as a revered elder of sorts. Warren went from demagoguery to a place as a champion of civil rights.

(10,951 posts)with the Tea Party and Republican Party, I would not be surprised if the US was capable of interning another group of citizens in the future. They truly act as though if you are not on of them, you have no rights.

(5,106 posts)serious, outrageous, but interesting aspect of Takei's life. No, not his sexual identity or time on "Star Trek," or opinion on Shatner. I wish this interview could have been longer or further pursued.
