Palestinians got along well with native Jews until the Zionist movement started, which called for the Jewish people to return to Israel, and Jewish immigrants started colonizing Palestine. In 1948, the people who wanted to form a Jewish state carried out a massive terror and ethnic cleansing campaign against the occupants of Palestine, expelling about half of them (750,000) from their land and into concentrated areas (Gaza and West Bank). Israel has slowly continued colonizing even those areas, which were specifically reserved by the UN for Palestinians.

campaign against the occupants of Palestine" seemed to occur just when Israel was attacked without provocation by all its Arab neighbors. What about all the Palestinians who left temporarily, planning on coming back and being rewarded with the Jews' property once the Arab armies were victorious?

Zionists were colonizing and destroying Palestinian villages and homes before Israel even existed. When the U.N decided to split Palestine in 1948, giving 56% to the Zionists to create Israel, the Zionists knew they would be attacked and were prepared for it. However, in case you didn't catch it the first time: International law makes it ILLEGAL to acquire territory through war. Israel has no right to claim Palestinian land as part of Israel and move beyond the boundaries set by the U.N.

And the Palestinians didn't leave temporarily. Israelis went into their villages, killed civilians (including women and children), and burned down their homes. They burned down entire Palestinian villages so that they would have no home to return to and built Israeli settlements on top of them.
