Papantonio: The Corporate Death Grip on America

In the 1980’s, Bayer Corporation produced a medicine that was supposed to improve the lives of hemophiliacs. Bayer didn’t tell those hemophiliacs that their product was infected with HIV. Entire families of hemophiliacs died with AIDS as the virus spread within households.

When Bayer was ordered to stop selling their drug in America, they dumped their AIDS laden product in Asia and killed Asian families. No one with Bayer management was arrested. No one who made those psychopathic quality decisions went to prison. They claimed the protection of their status as a “corporation.”

That “corporate” status gave management the ability to kill people for profit and not go to prison. I handled the civil case against Bayer and saw first hand that this was a rogue operation not typical of most corporations. But how do you put that rogue in prison? Who do you arrest?

You will then see corporate personhood, oligopolies, and their favorable tax code disappear overnight! This is how they run our country and prevent action on climate change, stop infrastructure spending, start unnecessary wars, and keep their corrupt CEO's from going to jail for the economic crash!

I cannot for the life of me figure out why, at the very least, that the people that regularly come to DU are not screaming for this to happen! I read about the things that are bitched about on this site like equal pay, minimum wage, the fawning MSM, corporate greed..., all things caused by corporate control of our politicians and the Courts, but very few who understand that our problems cannot be solved by electing Hillary, Elizabeth Warren, or whoever. They are too deep and widespread for a handful of honest politicians to make a dent in.

I understand that the corporations would never give this up without one hell of a fight, but it is the only way I see to tackle the problem. Otherwise, we can tell our grand kids to prepare for the end of life as we know it because the "Free Market" is going to kill almost everyone trying to make that short term buck. Our environment is in serious trouble and we have one party in total denial and the other giving mainly lips service. Sounds too terrible to be true huh? Well, the Earth is a finite place and no one is making any serious efforts to prepare for the future. At this pace I give us a 100 years tops! Nice knowing ya!

So, we need to make Citizens United v US FEC history now, for a start.
