mitigate the actions of a smaller, but very hard-core group of racists (much like the "pro lifers" vs those who favor the individuals' right to choose) who are self- righteous, active and vocal. The unprecedented disrespect and obstructionism that President Obama has faced is due to little else. President Clinton faced enough of it by simply being a Democrat. Add skin color to the mix (despite a mixed racial heritage and a White upbringing) and the haters will step up the hate. Honest election results show that these haters are dying out, but they're vicious and dangerous in their last gasp.
