perfectly illustrates the concept of getting paid to sit on one's ass. They've passed the fewest amount of bills since...ever, yet still get paid 6 figures per year. It's incredible.

Oddly enough, when they are "in session" they act like schoolyard bullies, and when they're in RECESS they make important 'fact finding' CODEL trips to key locations like LONDON, to see the new embassy, (and get tickets to the latest plays on offer), or ROME, to unnnh...unnnh...yeah, visit one of our overseas installations there and pester those poor bastards, yeah, that's the ticket!! OH--and get me a tour to Pompeii while you're at it, snip-snap!

And of course, there's OCTOBERFEST just around the corner--need to work on that vital US-German relationship!!

Doing the country's business sure is hard work!!!!!

14. In all fairness...

...I think members of congress are supposed to spend a lot of time in their home districts, ostensibly dealing with and being available to their constituents. If they were hardly ever in the area they are supposed to be representing, they could be criticized for that as well, yes?

In fact, I wonder, if they don't spend enough time there, do they fail to qualify for their position because they can't claim residency in their home district unless they are there a certain number of days?

Anyway, the point is, I think it would not be considered vacation because I believe it is actually a requirement of the position that they spend time in the area they serve. Though this would have been more essential in the days before email and telephones!

That Obama does constructive things when he is in his office, while Congress is no more effective when it's in session than when it's not.
