(14,733 posts)The only way I see him having a chance is if we offer up a Dem version of Mitt, so that people decide to vote for the real Republican, rather than the fake one.

(5,106 posts)His dad, George, was admirable in many ways. He must be, at least, stirring uneasily in his grave. On the other hand, it's the oft -repeated, centuries old story of the guy who earned his way up, and wanted to make it easier for his son. Countless examples throughout the centuries have turned out in very different ways. Mitt would seem to be the guy who took everything he was given as his due, and never learned any empathy for those less lucky. Old Joe Kennedy was an SOB and the furthest thing from a bleeding heart for others. He understood the way to true leadership and public support, however, and taught his sons. Disdain for those who had been born less fortunate was not part of the Kenndy mindset.

(62,406 posts)he would (and I still think will) run if he sees any daylight at all.
He really believes he is chosen to be the first Mormon president.
He is out campaigning and picking up some chits just in case for 2016.
I think the question is more - Is the Republican Party so bereft of talent that they would pick Romney again? My sense is yes.

(24,402 posts)He is not the worst of the bunch ideologically (though he'll parrot the lines he knows the "base" wants to hear when he has to), speaking of Republicans in general but..................that's not saying a whole lot. I still can't get exactly what his appeal is (or is supposed to be). He just comes across to me as the penultimate corporate Republican "empty suit". About the only people I he would seem to appeal to are older, richer whiter people (i.e. "Country Club Republicans" .

(62,406 posts)he has no compass other than to do what his buddies tell him. I think (maybe I am wrong) this is the worst of all. He literally would change his whole philosophy for a vote or a nickel.
