How not to react when your child tells you that he's gay

Even though Daniel tells his mother he cannot change his sexuality, and that is scientific proof, basic biology, she won't listen.

2. It's heartbreaking.

I can't imagine finding any reason to not love my son. To shun him. I hear about it, I've seen it, I've been stuck in the middle of it...I will never understand it.

I want to heal every child that has been through this. It has nothing to do with you, it's them. They're broken, not you. It hurts, I know. Time may fix them, but you need to live, love and laugh and not wait for their useless approval.

to show her god said nothing about homosexuality, it was all the priests and Paul (who never met Jesus) who made their stern pronouncements. They also proscribed no-iron cotton/poly bedsheets, cheeseburgers, football, shrimp cocktail, and bacon in exactly the same term they used for homosexuality, "abomination."

Crooked preachers make very good livings selling people on this horse shit. Mom just can't quite make the connection between "I knew when you were a little boy" to its not being a choice for any gay person thanks to all the hate she's absorbed from that pulpit.

The only advice I have for young men and woman in these situations is. The family wants to live in denial, so let them. Get an education and move on with your life, then if they love you, they can follow when they are ready.
