Reverend Dr. William Barber on what needs to be done and why

Published on Jul 11, 2014

Moral Monday founder Reverend Barber fires up AFT delegates with a message about what true morality means.

An excellent summary. I learned today, August 30th, is his birthday.

And yet, he and his movement gets little notice from our progressive leaders.
Yes we need to "hook up" but there seems to be little interest in it.

"In moral crises, too often we overestimate their power and underestimate our own power...we should declare today that this reality is over and we should make a a fresh promise of our own, and that is that we will organize and we will fight for the soul of our democracy. We must unpack the greatest myth of our time, that is the notion that extreme policies only hurt a small subset of people such as people of color, or gay people or women or poor people. Extremism hurts us all!...

...Teachers, you just can't be concerned about education, because the people fighting you are not just concerned about education; see, the same people fighting you are the same people fighting against voting rights; the same people fighting voting rights are the same people fighting women's rights; the same people fighting women's rights are the same people fighting immigrants rights; the same people fighting immigrants rights are the same people fighting labor rights, so you and I must be smart enough to hook up....you hook up with an agenda..."

Our new MLK has arrived.

Thanks for transcribing that for me. It was among the best parts of his talk.

... that this very man could be this generation's civil rights leader, as MLK was 50-60 years ago. He certainly is filled with conviction.

Amen to putting aside differences and working together. Divide and conquer has been the enemy's strategy from the beginning. The 99%, with all our differences, have more in common with each other, and once we know that and come together, we will defeat the 1% who think they are invincible.

One of the most compelling speeches I have heard from anyone, anywhere, in a long, long time! Thanks so much for posting it!
