Why are leaders corrupt? This question has teased and taunted researchers over the years; however, there is not much research that has examined this question using experimental designs that give real power to leaders in real-stakes situations. In this animated, fun, but also science-packed podcast, Prof. John Antonakis explains what he and his colleagues--Dr. Samuel Bendahan, Prof. Christian Zehnder, and Prof. François Pralong--found in two experimental studies. Both power (leader choice set and number of followers) and the person (baseline testosterone) caused corruption. The implications of this study are far reaching and should make individuals responsible for organizational governance mechanisms to pause and think about how much power and discretionary choices leaders should have.

(53,235 posts)The race in power can't claim racism against them. The gender in power, also, can't claim sexism against them. Doing so makes no sense, since the -ism is about systemic discrimination, not individual behavior.

(53,235 posts)of the testosterone results is that it was a conclusion of the study done. That's how you get proof.

(8,032 posts)...is that they never think of themselves as bigots. Selection bias is a powerful psychological force. I wrestle with it myself, as does everyone, to one degree or another.
Sexism can be and is practiced by both sexes. Any statement that biases one's actions or words against another person because of their genitalia and not their character and human uniqueness is by definition sexist.
It's weird to be on the other side of a discussion with you. I usually find myself in agreement with your posts. I suspect that will continue.

(53,235 posts)I'll be nice, but I get ruffled when people think racism goes both ways or sexism goes both ways. It doesn't.

Them there are facts that exist. Patriarchal facts. In a partriarchy such as the U.S., the dominant gender is male. Therefore, the systemic discrimination is against the female. Therefore, sexism (systemic discrimination based on gender) can only be applied to females.
Exceptions to this are anomalies which do not offset the systemic discrimination.
I'm done feeding now.

More over, this line of thinking (regarding testosterone) has already been refuted.
This is nothing more than an attempt to demonize testosterone:
evidence refutes the preconception that testosterone causes aggressive, egocentric, and risky behavior.
