Legendary singer and songwriter Glen Campbell has been battling Alzheimers disease for years, and is now in the final stages of the disease. Campbell has been moved to 24-hour care, as his doctors have determined that he is in the sixth stage of Alzheimers (severe cognitive decline).
It has been nearly two years since Campbell has performed in public however, as a farewell to his music career, Campbells record label has released his final studio recording.
His final ballad is called Im Not Gonna Miss You. The melody is somber and contemplative, but the lyrics show Campbells ability to find irony in his disease. The result is a beautiful combination of sadness and joy, which ends much too quickly.

I'm still here, but yet I'm gone
I don't play guitar or sing my songs
They never defined who I am
The man that loves you 'til the end
You're the last person I will love
You're the last face I will recall
And best of all, I'm not gonna to miss you.
Not gonna miss you.
I'm never gonna hold you like I did
Or say I love you to the kids
You're never gonna see it in my eyes
It's not gonna hurt me when you cry
I'm never gonna know what you go through
All the things I say or do
All the hurt and all the pain
One thing selfishly remains
I'm not gonna miss you
I'm not gonna miss you

It has been almost a year since I finished treatment for cancer. So far I am clear but certainly not out of the woods.
The last year has been undoubtedly the best year of my life.

Glen Campbell deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not only for his songs but for his session work. He played on numerous legendary songs.

Mr. Campbell also replaced Brian Wilson in the Beach Boys from December 1964 until April 1965, after Wilson left the tour for health reasons.

Strange disease. I can't help but think it was connected to where they were living.

(25,532 posts)he was considered one of the most gifted, if not THE most gifted, studio guitarist in the history of recorded music. How sad is this...?

(38 posts)I will never forget the joy of watching the Glenn Campbell Show many many years ago. It was the only show I watched on television at the time... he has a natural talent, as did so many of the performers on that show.
Dr. Mary Newport is a medical doctor who has done a great deal of research on Alzheimer's in order to help her own husband who has early-onset Alzheimer's ... and has developed a surprisingly successful protocol ... it is not perfect, but it is effective.
There are numerous videos about her work on youtube... two of which are here
