Women constitute more than half of the population. In 2008, 60% of voters were women. It is estimated that 10 million more women than men will vote in this election. Despite this, women make up only 16% of Congress. Women earn only 70 cents to each dollar men make. Women of color and undocumented women make less than white citizens. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party are determined to overturn Roe V. Wade. Romney has not supported equal pay for women (The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act). Romney has vowed to defund Planned Parenthood. Romney has vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Romney doesn't want health care to cover birth control. Romney says same sex marriage should be banned with a Constitutional Amendment.

Women, let's rise up. Our vote alone can win this election. A vote for Obama is a vote for your health and your right to choose. It is a vote for equal pay and equal rights. A vote for Obama is a vote for our families. It is a vote to marry who you choose. It's a vote to start a family when you choose. A vote for Obama says that we won't stand for violence against women and that rape is rape. Our vote ensures that our daughters will grow up with the same rights that we've had. A vote for Obama sends a message: This war on women must end. We will not go backwards.

This election is shockingly close. Our safety is at stake. Our silence is consent and our vote is our voice. Let's get active. Let's get out every vote we can. Let's make this election a mandate. A mandate to finally ensure women the respect, dignity and equality we all deserve! This is now. This is our call to action. Once and for all, let's take back the power that is so inherently and naturally ours!

GOTV...

Women have, for too long, been ignored. 60% is quite impressive. I'm hoping for 70% this time around.

I can guarantee the GOP will not support you, and can't wait to take another right away from you. Get out the vote girls.

Democrats better get women out to vote. Obama promised to help Latinos through immigration reform in 2012. He decided it could wait until after the mid-term elections. Latinos say they are not likely to vote because of Obama's failure to act. Democrats, you better turn out the women to make up for the Latino votes that Obama cost you. Obama, the failure that has already happened.

Do you support Obama no matter his short sighted judgment? If so, don't bother responding.

to even bring immigration up. Doesn't that frost you a bit, or is it all about Obama? The fact that 'supposed' Dems are blaming Obama frosts me.

is angry at Obama. Read the story on Crooks and Liars. I am an independent voter not affiliated with any party. I am an American citizen, but live in Canada. I do not support Republicans; never voted for one...because their beliefs are totally contrary to mine. Does that mean I support Obama's failures? No. You are allowed to be as frosted as you wish; I will continue to dislike Obama's failures and his fealty to corporate America. Your dislike of my beliefs will not change them.

okay to bash our Prez on a Dem board when there are other culprits you seem to be ignoring.

I love that song by Lesley Gore.

Yup, "You don't own Me"... "Don't tell me what to Do"

1960s teen idol Lesley Gore leads charge in ‘You Don’t Own Me’ video

She writes in an e-mail to PAPER magazine about the video: “Personally, I’m struck by the fact that we are teetering dangerously close to a situation where my daughter won’t have the same rights I’ve enjoyed my entire life and that scares the heck out of me. Women constituted 60% of last elections voters. We can win this thing. We just have to agitate, motivate, and get out the darn vote!”

She asked several friends including Carrie Brownstein, a guitarist and vocalist in Wild Flag and star of “Portlandia,” teen fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson, creator of the website “Rookie,” who recently asked for an interview with President Obama, and Miranda July, a popular performance artist.

snip

It’s that kind of rhetoric “You Don’t Own Me” protests. The women starring in the video obviously endorse Obama and encourage other women to do the same: “Our vote alone can win this election…A vote for Obama sends a message: This war on women must end. We will not go backwards.”

I feel much the same about Ellen Page now.

I loved this song when it came about because it was so different musically from everything else at the time. Of course, then I didn't quite get the message. At 9 years old, I just wanted to be free myself, I had no idea there was a double standard.
