Adolf Hitler apparently relied on a stunning array of drugs while ruling Nazi Germany, including one made popular by the show Breaking Bad: crystal meth. According to a 47-page US military dossier, a physician filled the Fuhrer with barbiturate tranquilizers, morphine, bulls' semen, a pill that contained crystal meth, and other drugs, depending on Hitler's momentary needs, the Daily Mail reports...

(14,732 posts)Dr. Morel injected him daily with all sorts of questionable stuff, including lots of amphetamines and multiple drugs to combat Hitler's infamous flatulence, there is no question that Hitler's atrocities were committed as an integral part of his bag and baggage thought out long before he came to power. When in power he merely moved to carry out his plans as he first outlined in Mein Kampf. The drugs he took in no way excuse what he did or qualified him as a madman.

It not accurate to say he was high on crystal meth - it is far more accurate to say he was high on methamphetamine - who was seen as a wonder drug - who could make people who was tired awake - and people who might have been broken mentally, clear as day.... Dr Morell who was Hitlers doctor for many years before and under World War two - was using Methamphetamine for what it was worth to stem up Hitler, when it was most needed - many doctors who tried to get their hands on Dr Morells "wonder-medicine" was either ordered not to pursue it by SS - the few who was not "encouraged" to stop the scherch - was either sent to the Eastern Front - as punishment - or put in Dachau for a duration - it was often enough to let most people dump the case rather fast as Dachau was a place to fear... And was used as a political prison for most of its history - with all the trimmings thanks to SS methods..
But this is not exactly news - as it was known already when Hitler was governing Germany - before World War two - that Hitler was given some medication that could make wonders for him - and that he was addicted to some mysterious medicine under most of WW2 are in no doubt - historians is not in agreement if Hitler was addicted to the substance under the whole war - but it is somewhat known that Hitler at least after 1943, the loss at Stalingrad really got to him - used Dr Morells medicine much more often than before - and that many of his generals noted in their diaries how Hitler could change - after a syringe from Dr Morell....
And by the way - not many had mutch good to say about Dr Morell - even his old party comerades who have his trust - had few kind words about Dr Morells medicines and the trust Hitler gave him..... Even Heini (Himmler) had his SS shecking up on Dr Morell time to time - and keep an tag on him at all time - the dossier Himmler had on Dr Morell was rather large.... But he was ordered by Hitler to keep his distance as Hitler trusted Dr Morell....

(2,065 posts)As a practitioner and teacher of Oriental herbal medicine, I want to say that Rhino Horn is NOT used by the Chinese to make men horny or to improve their sexual performance - that's a gross misunderstanding based on the English slang term I alluded to. I'm sick of hearing that little bit of misinformation trotted out again and again. In Chinese herbal medicine, Rhinoceros horn is used as a febrifuge, to bring down deep seated fevers in the blood. And bear's gall bladder is an absolutely wonderful, efficacious drug for stomach and biliary complaints. I once had a stomach ache so bad and painful that I was doubled over and couldn't stand, but my Japanese homestay mother gave me a little bit of bear's gall bladder, and within about ten minutes, that horrible, debilitating stomach ache was gone!
I suppose that it's easy for feminists and other politically correct types to jump to the conclusion that all of this slaying of endangered animals for medicine is nothing more than something to feed the male dong fixation. But the truth is much more varied and complex.

(14,549 posts)As noted above, the drug used in the 1940s was methamphetamine, a powder pressed into pills. Crystal meth cannot be made into pills as the headline claims. Also, Crystal was mass marketed long before "Breaking Bad" when biker gangs began cooking it in large quantities as a source of illicit income.
Drugs have been used in warfare for centuries. Getting conscripts addicted to heroin is one way that militias from Vietnam to Africa to Afghanistan keep them from running off. And the use of pharmaceuticals now extends to things like Cipro which was given emperically to our troops going into Baghdad in 2003, allegedly to preempt the effects of Saddam's non-existent biological weapons. Cipro was hot on the American blackmarket during the anthrax scare. So many troops were adversely affected by the drug that they coined the term "floxxed":
