His best point is at 2:05 where he talks about what Republicans think of Obamacare.

(7,358 posts)And of course he's right. Americans are so disengaged with how our government works for THEM. All they are told is how ''terrible" government is and how we need to do away with it altogether. Yeah, let's see how Anarchy works.

Maher has been lamenting the stupidity of the American people at least since "we" elected Bush 2.0.

(4,341 posts)The problem is that Americans do not read foreign press so they don't realize waht the World thinks of us. Not sure if anyone remembers when Bush 2. was "elected" for the 2nd term, the front page of the British paper "Slate", and not sure if "The Daily Mirror" as well...anyway here is the link:
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/international_papers/2004/11/brits_to_america_youre_idiots.html
And here is the headline:
Brits to America: You're Idiots!
Well, 51 percent of you, anyway.

(225 posts)Yes, but not because we want to be but because the average Americans is increasingly in constant survival mode. Quite frankly being something like politically aware or scientifically literate are things that most Americans just don't have fucking time or energy for between bills, family and work plus being overworked and consistently underpaid and often underemployed.
Also, fuck the unemployment rate. It would be better if we could talk about the underemployment rate as well as the unemployment rate.
This is why Democrats as a party need to start speaking the language of class warfare again.

(17,911 posts)...that our country is rotting from within. Sorry folks, but when a representative democracy is full of lazy, overindulged, thoughtless boobs, who's only care is what's on TeeVee tonight, it ceases to function. Thus, Ted Cruz, Steve King and Louis Gohmert can get elected to anything more significant than their local homeowners association and Congress in general can't agree on the color of shit. We're fat, lazy and happy, resting on 200+ years of other people's hard work and sacrifice. We'll see what the Chinese have to say about that in the coming decades.

(27,461 posts)but I see both Bill Maher and Jon Gruber as arrogant in the same way. I don't relate to either one of them, and I don't see either one as liberals, and i think it is a huge mistake for liberals to have anything to do with these types.
