If I wasn't so tired, I'm pretty sure I would be close to being in a murderous rage. I can just picture what she was like through all grades of school.

Some believe scientists are "ignorant" of the "joy" of their faith and some believe scientists are just plain EVIL and are purposely doing the Devil's Work by corrupting CHILDREN away from "the path" and should be put to DEATH.

Some "joy", huh?

She won't.

If we ignore her she'll get herself elected to a school board and demand that Intelligent Design (Re-marketed Creationism) be taught to our children.

I hear you, blackbart, I don't want to her her smug ignorance either, but we can't afford to ignore the dogma of the Saved Ones.

attitude of your typical IGNORANT yet extremely arrogant Right Wing Tea Bagger Christian. They spend so much time in their own little isolated communities bounces DUMB off each other at church & home school lesson planning meetings while listening to Glenn Beck all day for their daily news...They memorize the DUMB they hear every day & read in their home schooling literature all the while being told by Glenn Beck & other Right Wing voices on the AM dial how smart they are for believing everything they tell them.

The result is a utterly IGNORANT FOOL talking with such arrogance " smug, self righteous tone to her voice" because they really do think they know more than a scientist with multiple PhDs!!

What makes these people so dangerous is the fact they VOTE & people who know better don't!!

Sorry, can't do that.

satisfy her need for proof. This smug, maniacal, self-righteous dope doesn't demand a video of her jesus, though. (You just know she's a 'believer'.) So, where's the tangible proof of his miracles? Hell, there MUST be video proof of the actual moment of creation. And there's got to be an Adam & Eve sex tape out there, right? Quick, call TMZ. People like her actually are very scary.

Unless the prosecution could present a video showing the defendant committing a crime, she'd have to vote to acquit, right?

Except somehow I doubt she'd apply the same standard. Of assertions not supported by video, the Jesus stuff is absolutely true, evolution is absolutely false, and the best we could hope for is that her decision as a juror would depend on reasoned evaluation of the evidence.

Or someone exactly like her. Can't be talked to or with. Not interested in anything that might disrupt or dispute her way of thinking. Especially not the truth or facts. Doesn't have a narrow mind. It's closed.

I love that she's implying that Darwin's thinking is outdated. Yeah, the theory from 5000 years ago is so much more informed.

then working backwards toward the supporting argument.

Everybody else, starts with the evidence, such as fossil records, in this case, testing hypothesis after hypothesis until a working testable theory is formed.

You can always spot someone who doesn't understand what a theory is, b/c they'll say something really dumb, like, "a theory is just a theory." The implication is that the theory is an untested or unproven hypothesis. Theories stand on their own.

See? It's starts with an understanding and acceptance and agreement of the words we know in our dictionary.

hy·poth·e·sis
hīˈpäTHəsəs/
noun

noun: hypothesis; plural noun: hypotheses

- a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

the·o·ry
ˈTHēərē/
noun
noun: theory; plural noun: theories

- a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.

15. How do we know?
Sun Dec 7, 2014, 02:17 PM

We have something called the scientific method.

If I knew this person would wish to understand how knowledge is gained (and is okay, under whatever religious adhesion she might have), it's a little like this….

1) A sentient being observes a physical occurrence or phenomenon, after which, causes said being to put a question out about that phenomenon.

2) To research further, a problem is identified (like, "this doesn't make sense!&quot , after which relevant data are gathered.

3) This forms a hypothesis (a proposed explanation for a phenomenon, assuming she can follow this far). And you and others, using the scientific steps for reproducibility, empirically test it. Note: Empirical knowledge must be gathered by means of direct and indirect observation or experience.

4) We test over and over and over and over.

Did this wonderful woman ever pass a science test in the course of her schooling grades 2 through 12? I'm guessing that she was schooled, but prefers currently to be okay with never understanding a fucking thing she learned. What knowledge or shame of knowledge was she supposed to have gained? What a mark against the education system that she entered!

the theory explained on that poster is fascinating, I remember the pleasure I got from learning about in school. It is such a shame that her attitude gets in the way of her being open to it. I don't even understand how the theory is any threat to her, it's just pointless.

by the way here a very good, and a little funny, short essay on this subject, from one of my very favorite books of all time, "The Lives of a Cell" by Lewis Thomas:
