This is how it is done...finding common ground.
Tom interviews an Oathkeeper and manages to have a civil conversation to find common ground...and common ground is TPTB's worst nightmare.

(21,115 posts)Why would Russian TV be asking this question?

(18,998 posts)Tom Hartman is.

(18,998 posts)Because they don't cover such things as conversations to find common ground...they only show division and fear.
But you should know that Hartman has his own production company and has complete control of his content...RT does not tell him what to cover, which is not the case with the MSM.

And yes I listen to Hartman...I just DON'T listen to anything on Putin TV!
Besides...who cares about finding "common ground" with those assholes?

(18,998 posts)We divide it all up into good and evil, and there is no inbetween...with us or against us.
And of course with that kind of thinking you don't want common ground because the ideology is more important than anything else.
But hey, if you are cool with moving farther right because you don't want common ground to be found or anything but approved media to be seen then that is what you get.

(18,998 posts)That keeps us stupid and safely in the heard of sheeple.
It has been done often enough in the 20th century now that we should know better by now, but some still don't get it.

(21,115 posts)You should be ashamed of yourself....that guy was DISGUSTING....you want to cozy up to THAT nut? How the hell do you find common ground with THAT???

(18,998 posts)I guess we should keep narrowing our viewing until all we have is what?...MSNBC?
It is funny how some would have a left wing Pravda, where only approved messages are viewed...and all others are denounced.

(6,419 posts)In case you haven't noticed, DU allows only MSM sources in its Late Breaking News (and forbids fake news sites like FOX or RT).

(6,419 posts)For you to brag about RT not being "MSM" is just BS. It's like the RWers who switch between "MSM" and "Obama Media" when complaining that most news doesn't sound like FOX. You also call it MSM because it doesn't follow the party line, in this case the Kremlin's.
The US press is varied and rich; you can't just label it all as MSM and dismiss it. Proof of that is that even very progressive people who have problems with the accepted premises of many major news sources still understand that a critical use of those sources is still a good way to get info, and that's why DU accepts only legitimate news sources in LBN and rejects RT. So your argument that RT somehow has automatic value because it is not MSM is totally wrong. (Not mentioning that RT has no more legitimacy than FOX in the first place.)
zeemike
(18,998 posts)But what sounds right wing to me is the hyperbole you use to censer things that are not Mainstream.
There is nothing progressive about that.

(6,419 posts)The tools of democracy can be used to undermine it. That's exactly what the Kremlin is doing when its apologists cry "censorship." And it's yet another thing the RT apologists have in common with the RWers, who are always whining about "censorship" when facts don't match their ideology, just like white supremacists scream "censorship" when the press doesn't represent the views of the KKK, like Creationists who cry "censorship" when science books don't include the Biblical view of the origin of life.

(18,998 posts)Sounding the paranoid alarm about the Kremlin secretly undermining our country with RT...and guilt by associating for any "apologist" with the right wingers...
If you think you will convince me that way you are mistaken...But I suspect it is not for me you do it.

(18,184 posts)He rails against Soros' influence in politics but wants to repeal all campaign contribution laws so it's a corporate and oligarchy free for all.
But when it comes to immigration, he's not so libertarian. He wants to enforce more laws.
zeemike
(18,998 posts)It is about finding common ground and they did that...they both said it was oligarchical and out of control.
And if we don't then things will just get louder and more vicious...notice that there was none of that here.

(65 posts)"makes no sense"?
If we are to ever get control over the corporate oligarchy we need to find common ground and not have our first move to be identifying issues to disagree on
"he wanted to repeal all campaign contribution laws" ?
He stated this?
Don't think so
And on immigration it would be a miracle if we did actually see some common sense immigration rules.
So far we have no real borders so we are essentially a lawless territory and we have those on the left that feel a literal invasion of law breakers requires sanctuary cities, drivers licenses for law breakers, the equivalent of a Frank Luntz 'word twisting' in calling them 'undocumented' so as to sound less unlawful, etc and on the right we have a long list of racists and low information voters and the corporates and their servants in congress voicing opposition to unregulated and unlawful entry so as to placate the racists who support them while all the while privately voicing pleasure with the low wages and other long list of negatives this unlawful entry creates.
It's a rigged game with a stacked deck
Time to stop playing even when the cards are reshuffled.
