(10,597 posts)Great conversation on how Milton Freidman's "Neoliberalism" is working out there. Capitalism with the gloves off, where everything is privatized. Two/thirds of the people live on $1,200 a month.

(41,052 posts)and attempts to change it recently. Just read Robt. Hunziker's article on Chile. Saw SA when young, beautiful and diverse with poverty, some middle class and European style cities. Old Lima, incredible Machu Pichu, Rio, Buenos Aires Christmas Day 1972 with confetti and flyers for Juan Peron. At Santiago airport advised not get off the plane, one look out the window at soldiers with machine guns convinced us. That was Allende's last year. Miami return with news of rugby students rescued from the Andes plane crash.
Strange there's not more connection between the US and neighbor SA continent.
