That is a high cap mag, and the lower receiver is what is classified as 'the firearm', so removing the bolt doesn't make it legal.

Like the current SOH Boehner....re tobacco corps - from 1996 documentary by PBS called "The People and the Power Game," John Boehner is caught red-handed in an amazing act of corruption -

From Crooks and Liars..

Boehner: Mine asked me to give out a half dozen checks quickly before we got to the end of the month and I complied. I did it on the House floor which I regret and I should not have done, it's not a violation of the House rules, but it's a practice that's gone on here for a long time.

Were the checks from tobacco companies?

Boehner: Ahh, I think if my memory serves me correctly, I think it was a tobacco company, yes.

Q)....but in this case tobacco's well timed contributions helped save its subsidy. The people that were passing out the checks won.

So how did he become their leader in the HOUSE? Oh right, being corrupt is just fine for Republicans...

Following the mass school shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, then-NBC host David Gregory had a dust-up with local authorities after he brought a 30-round high-capacity gun magazine on "Meet the Press,” which is filmed in Washington.

Local police investigated, but eventually decided not to bring charges against Gregory.

IMO, BOTH should be/should have been charged.

I believe the purpose of the OP was noting that possession of such weapons is illegal in DC, and illegal possession has nothing to do with ownership. If you disagree, see how far that gets you when you tell the nice officer "It's not mine, I'm just holding it for someone else so that makes it okay."

But if you really wish to make comparison of the pictures, one is a picture of one non-functional weapon with a trigger lock, kept in a locked case and only then after advance permission was given by Capitol Police (even if that permission was faulty), and the other is a picture of a veritable arsenal of completely functional and unsecured weapons.

I guess it is just a case of IOKIYAD?

...unless Buck is telling the truth, that he did in fact get permission to bring an AR-15 into his House office by the Capitol Police:

The District of Columbia explicitly prohibits a person from illegally possessing a gun within a gun free zone. As noted in the District of Columbia Guns in Schools section, since the District prohibits the open or concealed carrying of guns, they are effectively banned in gun free zones. A “gun free zone” is defined as any area within 1,000 feet of a public or private day care center, elementary school, vocational school, secondary school, college, junior college or university, or any public swimming pool, playground, video arcade, youth center, or public library, or in and around public housing, or an event sponsored by any of these entities.

The District also prohibits a person from carrying or having readily accessible a firearm upon the U.S. Capitol Grounds or within any of the Capitol Buildings. “Capitol Buildings” are the U.S. Capitol, the Senate and House Office Buildings and garages, the Capitol Power Plant, all subways and enclosed passages connecting two or more of such structures, and the real property underlying and enclosed by any such structure.

http://smartgunlaws.org/other-location-restrictions-in-washington-d-c/#identifier_3_5528

FWIW, here's the text of the law itself.

It shall be unlawful for any person or group of persons, except as authorized by regulations which shall be promulgated by the Capitol Police Board, to carry on or have readily accessible to the person of any individual upon the United States Capitol Grounds or within any of the Capitol Buildings any firearm, dangerous weapon, explosive, or incendiary device;

We need the Capitol Police to set the record straight here.

47. Members of Congress can keep firearms in their offices, Capitol Police say (Yahoo News)

https://www.yahoo.com/politics/members-of-congress-can-have-firearms-in-their-117093701946.html

A Republican congressman who brought an AR-15 rifle to his Capitol Hill office did so legally even though it’s illegal for most people to carry a firearm under Washington, D.C.’s strict gun laws, police say.

Last week, Colorado Rep. Ken Buck tweeted a photo of himself and Rep. Trey Gowdy posing with the American-flag-painted assault rifle.

Buck told the Washington Post that he received clearance from authorities to transport the firearm from his home state to his office on Capitol Hill.

“I went to Capitol Hill police,” Buck said. “They went to the D.C. police, [and] they got permission for me to transport it into the District. I went to TSA, and followed all of the regulations in getting it onto the plane and getting it here.”

If you had spelled it either "idiocy" or "idiocracy", depending on what you meant. Making us look like Tea Party placard wavers misspelling words about low intelligence does not help make your point.

Considering that the weapon in the picture posted by the OP is about as dangerous as a picture of a gun (the parts that let it fire a bullet are in Colorado), explaining why it is idiocy would also be a nice touch to help distinguish you from the gentleman above.
