food derived from GMO crops is just as safe for human consumption as food derived from any other sort of crop.

THere are other issues that often get mixed up in the debate - the business practices of the companies that produce GMO seeds (some of which I find abhorrent), the ecological problems caused by fertilizers and pesticides, and so on. I think we should be focusing our energy on fixing these.

And they don't scare me at all...but then I don't eat the green parts...and most people know that and it tastes like shit if you try.
In fact people have been eating them for thousands of years and they don't need to be modified.
The only reason they do it is to sell you something that you don't need

GMO is causing a cancer epidemic! Tomatoes have been gene spliced with spiders! GMO increases pesticide use! GMO causes Indian farmers to commit suicide! GMO makes people sick! GMO reduces yields! GMO is taking over conventional fields! GMO doesn't help the consumer! There have been almost no health studies! GMO is full of toxins! GMO causes food allergies and asthma! GMO Bt pollen kills butterflies!

Since people all over DU promote this nonsense, does that make them Republicans?

The food is the entire topic of conversation,...including that the home grown veggies were washed in spring water.

It can be like an evening with an insurance salesman.
