(3,982 posts)An atrocity not only for the incident but for the politicization and the use of the tragedy to political persecution.
It is understandable that the public here are confused about the nature of the events due to the media coverage. But what is not understandable are those that excuse the lack of a proper investigation and letting those involved who are politically on the "side" of the current government not only go free but allowed to participate in continued street actions through groups like "ultras" and "right sector".
In a just or civil society each individual who participated in violent activity would be tried regardless of what activity earlier in the day was used to justify (additional?) murder, or regardless of whether there were reciprocal actions on both sides (which there really was not the case at the location of the massacre).
In the US, (yes, even in someplace like Russia), revenge is not considered an adequate defense for murder. Every person who shot at someone else, threw a Molotov cocktail, beat someone else with a bat, etc, should be brought to justice according to the severity of the crime. All those who threw Molotov cocktails, threatened or shot at people trying to exit the building, or obstructed fire trucks trying to reach the scene (which happened), should be brought to justice.
In the west anyone who actively participated in an aggressive action that ended in a death would at the least likely go to jail for manslaughter, if it were seen to be group violence that would be accounted for, and these groups would be outlawed and placed on a list of organizations that sponsor violence.
Yet we talk like the current government in Ukraine is democratic and worthy of our governmental support and protection.
It does not bode well for our society when our people start seeing these things as "the end justifies the means" and justice is only served in the cases where we desire and not all cases.
