(3,741 posts)don't like gun violence one bit ... even if it shows a black man legally defending himself. What ever happened to a simple fist fight? The drunk guy would be arrested, instead of dead. We have returned to the wild west form of justice.

(53,468 posts)if the black guy didn't have the gun.
One of them had already cold cocked him, then the other one charged him.
Those racists just messed with the wrong black guy.
but I don't like it on bit .... guns are not the answer. Looks like our shooter could have easily taken on the drunkard, even after he was sucker punched. That take down would have been fun to see ... not a shooting and killing.

(53,468 posts)That video shows real life not the movies. Do you seriously think the others would have just stood there and watched as the black guy tussled with the one who charged him?
One of them had already punched him, and had to be held back with the black guy's gun of which he had a legal permit. It's pretty obvious from the racial slurs they directed at him and the punch and the charge that they were ready to gang up on him.
Why in the world would he try to take on three guys by himself and get battered, or worse?
What is it?
A black guy is not supposed to defend himself from a bunch of racial slur hurling white guys?
Only white cops/guys can feel their life is threatened (his actually was, he wasn't just saying that so he could shoot someone)?
Please!

(2,962 posts)I don't like this, either. Violent confrontations are never good.
That being said, I've seen my share of belligerent drunks. They can actually be much harder to take down than someone who's sober. Your best bet is to get away from such people. In this case, the gentleman with the gun was cornered. He was also outnumbered. He shot from close range, but didn't kill his assailant; in fact, the assailant was still able to run. What he didn't wasn't good, but it may have been necessary.

the guy who defended himself would've been in jail if there would not have been cameras...
I don't believe in US justice system any longer... not an ounce

(16,903 posts)I saw the video, and the guy who lunged really looked freaked out, but somehow it saddens me that the only recourse nowadays is a gun. Thankfully, the shooter was not arrested, he did everything right... BUT
It saddens me to see how violent American has become .

(18,124 posts)in this country. The 'reason' for any type of racial, cultural hate used to escape me.
We all wake up everyday. We all start our day. We all, with different levels of emotion, distress, happiness, depression, challenge deal with our day. We all cry, laugh, bleed the same way. We, in the struggle class, must make a living or try to find a way to make a living...my friend just lost her job as a cab dispatcher...uber has really cut into that companies business. Unregulated and unfair. So we move on from our challenges the best way we can. The baby's crying and in need, where the next meal is coming from is faced by all races and creeds. How to keep the lights on, furnace blowing hot or cold air, the teen is struggling in school and acting out and on and on we have to deal with our day
Storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, cancer, many of us suffer with diabetes, prostate problems, high cholesterol, nails need trimming, hair needs trimming, have to wash clothes, clean up the house, many have to changes the cat litter, walk the dog, feeling that unexpected pain somewhere in ones body, ending up with stitches because the kitchen knife slipped or one loses focus and has an accident...my point is...we're all having to deal with this condition called being human.
Many of us are fooled into thinking money or power or a gun or a skin color makes one 'better' than another. In my travels I have met many who think and live with this delusion. Yet in living, in having life, we are all the same and all just are trying to live it.
I am sad that the dead individual had such a racial hate that he died because of it. I am sad that the man receiving that hate had to defend himself for being a black man.
I have hate(s) and prejudices. Have no doubt. The only way I stop those is by looking at the other person who is a recipient of that moments hate, disdain or revulsion, not as an object, black, muslim, hispanic, jewish, white, gay, straight, jerk, stupid, challenged and on and descriptive on, but as a fellow human being with the same challenges to try to enjoy breathing as I.
And this is starting to work in my favor and for others, more and more. We just have to look at that 'other' person as a human being like ourselves. Not as the cause of any pain or misfortune I may be suffering from at any given time. Say I'm angry because my cat is sick and I have to pay large amounts of dollars to remain responsible for that living creature. I'm on my way to the vet, the cat is in pain and letting me know it and a person of a different race, creed, culture does something irresponsible or just plain uncaring. My anger, fear, worry of that moment is immediately transferred to that individual, I pick a term n*****, h*****,g***, t******** f*******, b****, c***, and that person becomes immediately an object and not human. I want to strike out, not because I hate that person in general, but because I have 'transferred' my moments emotion to that person. This, to me, is a source of much conflict and grief in life. I try to remember that I am not that person and I have not gone through that persons life that day. My anger recedes and I move on.
I'm not idealistic enough to feel that this will work in every case, video in OP proves that. But just letting it go, whatever the situation, not life threatening, is a way to deescalate any situation between individuals.
It really is getting that simple, for me.
