Seymour Hersh Details Explosive Story on Bin Laden Killing & Responds to White House, Media Backlash

Four years after U.S. forces assassinated Osama bin Laden, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh has published an explosive piece claiming much of what the Obama administration said about the attack was wrong. Hersh claims at the time of the U.S. raid, bin Laden had been held as a prisoner by Pakistani intelligence since 2006. Top Pakistani military leaders knew about the operation and provided key assistance. Contrary to U.S. claims that it located bin Laden by tracking his courier, a former Pakistani intelligence officer identified bin Laden’s whereabouts in return for the bulk of a $25 million U.S. bounty. Questions are also raised about whether bin Laden was actually buried at sea, as the U.S. claimed. Hersh says instead the Navy SEALs threw parts of bin Laden’s body into the Hindu Kush mountains from their helicopter. The White House claims the piece is "riddled with inaccuracies." Hersh joins us to lay out his findings and respond to criticism from government officials and media colleagues.

It does not matter how many awards he has received, as a journalist he has to be accurate in his reporting. Now some of the information has been released and there are those who says his story is not accurate and of course he has an anonymous sources of which he is entitled to have he just may have difficulty in proving his story. Perhaps the source lied and Hersh is innocent recipient.

Sort of like Lara Logan? I understand journalists are subject to anonymous sources, but where do you stop and allow integrity to take over. Can this story, as in the Benghazi 60 minutes ever be proven false? not sure, but as long as the sources "could" be enemies of this country...and not saying Pakistan is our enemy (now)....well I take it at face value. I would call Hersh an innocent recipient... Sey Herch as been in this game too long.

responsibility to verify their sources. I am surprised this may not have happened but as an award winning journalists would have verified.

The Vietnam War was justified by the Gulf of Tonkin incident and to have questioned the truthfulness of that incident in the 60's would have been considered an outrage. During the Iraq War a 'feel good' story was created around Jessica Lynch. Why? To help sell the War, thus making Americans feel good about what their government was doing. Or, remember the 'blue fingers' of the Iraqi voters in their new, super-duper Democratic election? All down the rabbit hole. To somehow think Obama would be different and not lie to Americans is extremely naive.

They will come down on Hersh like a ton of bricks for this...the myth must be protected at all costs.
And yes even liberals will do it...but his version makes a lot more sense than the official story.

The official story smelled to high heaven. Too much made no sense at all.

And comparing Seymour Hersch to Lara Logan. That's kind of like Babe Ruth to Pee Wee Herman.

It is very difficult to accept because it is a huge change in understanding and trust.

When people use the term "manufactured consent" they are not talking about some wordsmithing. There is a history of artificial narratives and particularly in the last 20 years this is becoming the common place way to approach the public.
