American chemical giant DuPont has a history of corporate fines concerning health and safety regulations. Now, OSHA has finally decided to fine DuPont for safety violations that led to the deaths of four employees in Texas.
Should DuPont be facing the corporate death penalty? Ring of Fire hosts Mike Papantonio and Farron Cousins discuss this.

(10,495 posts)intentional occurrence). Mike mis-spoke on one thing, it was her supervisor who was opening bleeder valves while he had the rest heating the frozen pipes with torches. In cold weather this antiquated unit would freeze up and had to be heated to get the product moving again. It was well known that this supervisor would get it moving again by breaking numerous safety rules.
OSHA didn't come back because there are so many refineries and chemical plants there, and only so many (few) inspectors like they say later in the commentary. That is the real crime!
The other crime is the tort reform that is taking away the rights of Americans and they are unaware of it until they are hurt and injured and go see an attorney. I will give you an example, in March of 2005, BP blew up their plant just down the road from Dupont killing 15 and injuring 6,000. The suit was successful for almost all of the injured victims to recover for their damages. BP went to the Texas legislature and the courts to complain and spread lots of campaign cash around. The result is now, if that same accident were to occur today there would be zero lawsuits! Refineries typically have many more contractor employees from other companies working on the premises of the refiner. Under Workman's Compensation law you cannot file a suit against your employer, but you can against 3rd parties who have contributed, in whole or in part, to your damages. They changed the law saying that the Comp policies of the contractors are extended to cover the premises owner (refiner like BP) so that you are unable to sue them. This despite the fact that the premises owner never paid a dime for the policy. Pretty neat trick to get insurance for free huh?
These are some of the things that Bernie Sanders could start a conversation on.
GO BERNIE!!!
