(3,844 posts)Not to mention all of this deep-throating...I mean hero-worship of the military as if they are infallible.

(5,069 posts)has a record of wasteful military spending - so this is not surprising.

But the US has been engaged in wars of choice since WWII - asymmetric - wars where the population didn't have to make direct sacrifices to fund the war machine. Even the draft was abolished in 1975. So these are not 'total wars' where the population has to make direct sacrifice - save nylons and aluminum pans, for example....The populations sacrifices are hidden through cuts in social services...
Even with the total wars this country has been involved in, I would argue that the military waste is not a recent phenomenon - as Smedley Butler noted 'War is a Racket'.

(24,683 posts)...................pay checks, retirement, savings, stocks, bonds, land and every politician that knew about this, we have over a 3 trillion war debt----------this totally outrageous.
They have no moral fiber of decency -------------none.
But there home, I would be nice, they deserve to have a place to live even though that money could have fed 45 million children under the SNAP program

(3,982 posts)We throw half our resources / Taxes at it. The budget constantly gets increased regardless if it is necessary or not. People are getting massively rich finding holes and "niches" to siphon and sponge out the riches.
I would imagine waste and misuse is fairly widespread.
