(45,251 posts)That is true. No matter what his heart may say, he operates to the right of FDR on domestic policy.

(9,086 posts)The stuff he talks about is much closer to FDR and LBJ than to Eugene Debs.

(57,936 posts)He could very easily win.
He really, really could.
Don't count him out so quickly. He is a serious contender. He is honest. People are so sick of sleazy politicians.
Even if someone digs up a couple of scandals from his past, he can handle it. He has been in politics, winning over Republicans for longer than most of the pundits who diss him.
Go, Bernie.

(45,251 posts)Founded the Congressional (House) Progressive Caucus and chaired it for the first 8 years of its existence. Continued to caucus with it after becoming a Senator because the Senate has no Progressive Caucus (though I'd bet Bernie tried to start one).
It's so encouraging - they plan for hundreds at his appearances and thousands show up. Bernie's message resonates with people. He really does have a good chance of winning.

(32,723 posts)And that's exactly what some people do.
They actually believe the rich are actually "blessed" and are closer to God than us commoners.
It's a religion with them.
Have you ever met that type?
They blend their twisted faith with super patriotism to the point where speaking against the rich is labeled as not only blasphemy but TREASON.
Both of which they consider to be punishable by DEATH.

Both think I'm pure EVIL.

(50,983 posts)We've tried Supply Side Trickle Down®. We've tried it for decades now. It has nearly destroyed us.
And finally, so many people have been hurt by these Grover Norquist/Ronald Reagan rules of the road that their ears perk up when they hear Bernie's words.
I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s. The wealthy weren't starving. They didn't feel deprived. Their job creator skills weren't lagging behind. We did things as a nation, great things. We went to the moon FFS.
The wrong people have been running this country for far too long. Time for a new team.

(32,723 posts)The rich don't "create" jobs. They think of employees as a necessary evil.
The richest ones feel ZERO obligation to pay someone enough to live. Some bosses figure if you are able to afford a new car they're paying you too much.
Then there's the other crowd that really drives me nuts.
That's the ones that honestly believe that ALL you need to get ahead is to show some spine and march into your boss's office and ASK for a raise. They act like it's still the 1960s when someone would automatically get a raise if they got married and another when the wife was expecting. That world is LONG GONE.

(32,723 posts)The propaganda about the Reagan Years worked on their parents but this generation grew up listening to those parents talk like Pod People about Reagan like he's their Lord and Savior while reading about Iran Contra and watching the failure of Supply Side Economics.

(528 posts)Lot's of millennials are taking advantage of the information available and have a superb understanding of the status que. They're pissed. All they see is a bunch of old assholes who ruined everything while the only rational people lat the time were ignored. Bernie is speaking to their concerns.

(5,208 posts)The right thing by getting an education, but all she can see in front of her is a mountain of debt and no job after graduation. She's pissed and so are all her friends. She didn't know about Bernie when he first announced he was running, but I told her to look him up on the Internet and now she is a huge fan and telling her friends about him.

He has accepted the false premise that money and power trumps all, and forgets that people vote for the candidate.

(3,544 posts)and 98% of the people would approve. Only Bernie Sanders!!! Ya gotta love him.
And when they debate? I can see Hilliary now, when she can't actually argue against him. He states NOTHING but the truth. And we all know the truth shall set you free. Sam: "They can't find and angle, quite frankly, to stop him". That's 100% accurate. And they won't stop him. I think it's time to shake up Washington, and start to give the government back to the people.
I can't wait. I've never been this pumped up about an election, in my entire life.
GO Bernie, GO!!!

(7,865 posts)They really don't do well with discussions about policy. Many of Bernie's interviews have had the interviewers try to bait him into bad mouthing his opponents.
Bernie completely moves the question to being about policy and the working class.
