4. Which has me scratching my head -

how can any state deny a group of people access to the/their constitution? How can this be legal on any plane, and why hasn't anyone sued against it? A group of people can't be picked up by anyone else, so why/how do laws like this go into effect? Constitution is what the gov't can't do to us and is not to be used as a bully pulpit against anyone (as natural born citizens we are born with rights, the gov't doesn't give them to us).

Isn't this just posturing and pandering until someone has the guts to actually take this to the SCOTUS? It still flabbergasts me how the teabaggers can get 'laws' like this on the ballot in the first place. WTF are these Attorney Generals?

5. Its a marathon, not a sprint

Scalia is 76 and Kennedy is 75. There is a future in sight without these two on the court. Obama NEEDS to win and hopefully at least one of these two will leave the Court during his second term. Ginsberg will possibly not last on the bench for another term either. The next 12 years should see those three and Breyer leave the bench. If we have the senate and white house, we could easily overturn these insane hateful actions. Its why we simply HAVE to win.

3. What kills me is they are taking away rights that some companies willingly offer

My company has offered 'domestic partnership' benefits long before the state offered civil rights to same sex couples. The NC law now says that my company cannot cover same sex couples and honestly, I think that is just shit.

I also weep for the hospital visitation rights. If these teabagging assholes want the government 'minding their own business' then what right does the government have with telling someone who they can and cannot have visit them in the hospital? I know love is an powerful healing tool - why should a person be stuck with family members where there could be bad blood when instead they could have a loving partner there by their side.

The USSC knows this but it will do nothing about it as it sees state after state amending state constitutions to deprive a selected group of their citizens of their natural right to pursue their individual happiness.

The Bill of Rights in the US Constitution is incomplete and what is enumerated therein is vague and open to conjecture and misapplication.

It will take a USSC with courage and intended justice to strike down all those state constitutional prohibitions against the individual right to pursue and achieve goals of happiness enjoyed by all citizens.

Where did I get that "Pursuit of Happiness"? Try the US Declaration of Independence. It comes after "Life and Liberty."

17. Wow. I'm so glad I spent time and effort fighting this in NC...

Just to be lumped in with people who voted for it.

Why don't you make a graphic that thanks the people who worked so hard and are so very disappointed and who actually live here and are going to suffer the consequences? Does it make you feel somehow more tolerant to do this instead? Or do you actually care?

I'm sure Buncombe (Asheville), Chatham, Dare (Outer Banks), Durham (Durham), Mecklenburg (Charlotte), Orange (Chapel Hill), Wake (Raleigh) and Watauga (Boone) counties and all the hundreds of thousands of people who voted against it also enjoy being counted as one homophobic person.

I'm sure the polls that show that the majority of NC'ers were against a constitutional amendment (but unfortunately not likely voters) were wrong. I'm also sure that the 10% of people polled who thought voting for the amendment meant voting for marriage equality were lying to the pollsters.

It passed by 500,000 votes. There are over 9.5 million people in NC.

It is sad. We are very disappointed. But, this lame excuse for a "graphic" minimizes all the work that some very good people did trying to fight this thing which came from some very well-funded and organized groups outside our state.

First time I've wanted an unrec button in a long time.

It's bad enough that we worked and worked and it still passed, but then fellow (and apparently far-superior) Democrats pile on. I did not vote for Amendment One. In fact I don't know anybody who did. So well done us! And we'll keep fighting the good fight.
