5 Ways America Is Already SocialistPublished on Aug 6, 2015 Socialism, turns out the dirtiest word in U.S. politics is as American as apple pie. From the U.S. labor movement to the New Deal to corporate subsidies, America relies on a healthy dose of socialism.

1. If only you could force everyone to see this.
It would have to soften the image of socialism as equal to communism, or even Naziism (remember they were the National SOCIALISTS!).

2. I say we remind the masses about how many good democratic socialists there are, and if you believe
in the Constitution & all this country was founded upon, you believe in the basic premises of democratic socialism.
Our country was founded on the very same principles, to safeguard our gov't to be representative of WE THE PEOPLE. TPTB don't want us to remember that, and they certainly don't want us to remember it during this election. |

3. Even if you could force everyone to see this; even if you explain it...
You can't understand it for them. For many, "deaf ears" summarizes it.
They can persist with "Hitler was a socialist." I only stifled that, when I challenged them to edit the post on types of socialism in wiki by adding National Socialism. ![]() --imm |

4. I agree about the kind of people you refer to
But there are some people that are well-meaning but ignorant. Quite a few people mix up socialism with communism. It would be nice to be able to educate them.

8. There are those people too, but...
It's always a good idea, I think, when discussing communism or socialism to find out what people think they mean.

9. There's never going to be a time when we can completely stamp out ignorance. It exists & for some
it is absolutely willful. EVERYTHING is a choice, learning & progress over ignorance & hate is no different.
All we can do is take advantage of teaching moments and fight disinfo, the rest is up to the individual. Sometimes the info doesn't hit home until it becomes personal, THAT is out of our control, but it doesn't mean we stop doing what we do. |

7. "Socialism is as American as apple pie. Bought at a Walmart. With food stamps."
![]() Some good info, but I hate when they include non-discretionary taxes in with discretionary. 60% or more of our discretionary taxes goes to WAR. |

10. One lesson at a time, valerief. Don't shoot the messenger or the message, it is of great
significance during this time of oligarchy. You are absolutely right about the majority of our country's budget going toward the war machine, that's a lesson in itself...we can't include everything in a 3 min. video, now can we? One step at a time, if it helps reach one person we are the better for it.

11. I agree it was a good message. A young person mentioning labor history instead
of just listing words we can't say is so refreshing and thoughtful.
