(19,537 posts)... when the truth is what has people upset with our government now!
That's why RT has Thom Hartmann on his show with no attempts to control his content. They know that Hartmann calls out our government officials when we are doing the wrong thing, and that people will listen to him. He doesn't have to have some other person give us propaganda which would be a lot less effective. I look at a lot of the rest of RT's shows with a grain of salt, but those like Thom Hartmann and Michael Moore, I'll watch and look for more truth than I'll ever get from the corporate media.
Moore has been very effective with the truth in many of his other films that have challenged our government's policies, and rightly so. RT is smart if they give him air time, when the corporate media propaganda sink of our own doesn't want to give us the truth on so many issues when it works against the agenda of their owners.

Be that as it may, I'm a little bit smarter for having watched it as I did not get any of this info anywhere else.

(39,909 posts)You should at least watch some of it for a viewpoint that differs from the standard, Corporate, American Exceptionalism, pablum you are being fed every day.
I frequently reflect on the irony that in past years, the Soviet Union and Pravda were complete propaganda.
Today, it seems the roles are reversed.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)Or are you saying that he NEVER criticizes Russia to comply with Putin's wishes?
Like I said, RT isn't STUPID! They know if they even try or even hint to try and censor his show or try to control it, it will likely lose him as a broadcast, and he wouldn't want to lose any of his viewers doing so either.
They know that Hartmann does enough of criticizing our government in all the right places to give it a bad image when it DESERVES it, and if Putin and Russia want to have that happen, the best approach is to just let Thom Hartmann do and say what he wants and not touch his show content-wise. They try to censor it themselves then they stop having him give a deserved black eye, and they just lose out themselves in the process. It's not too hard to figure out.
Now if we had a decent government that wasn't prone to corporate corruption like ours is now in a deep fashion, perhaps then RT might try to play more games, as they might have a hard time doing propaganda on us then, if the truth didn't hurt Americans' image of this country at all.

The American taxpayer is funding a military budget that more than the rest of the world combined. All while working longer hours for less money in a rotting infrastructure.. Who's REALLY being used???

(1,370 posts)The film will be shown in public anyway... Not a fan of Putin either... Don't forget an RT reporter walked off the set over because she felt they were being to soft on Putin.. Ever see that happen on US corporate propaganda news?

(16,286 posts)on the planet as propaganda to attack the USA
The USA is guilty of whatever, and Moore is an American hero and I defend him all the time, and I am sure the movie is 100% accurate
Still, I HATE seeing Thom Hartmann on RT and I hate seeing them use this.
A lot of Americans, in their zeal to hate W and Cheney and CIA and so on, all deserved, have somehow missed the gigantic bastard and murderer Putin is.
Someone start a thread and ask people what they think of him, I am curious.
raindaddy
(1,370 posts)Personally I'm more interested in cleaning up our own mess and not as bothered as you seem to be about Putin benefiting from the exposure of OUR corruption...

(16,286 posts)and has done, I guess, to just point fingers only at your own house. I guess I wont say that applies to you or anyone here but the attitude I am seeing is surprising given what I assume you must all know.
I see apologists here on DU for Putin. I am not pointing fingers, but that is what I am seeing.
And I would not apologize for that motherfucker anymore than I would for Reagan, the worst American president and most destructive one of all time or for W, 2nd place in that category.
I would like to see W and Cheney and Blair AND Putin in prison.
I would like Michael Moore to receive some sort of official award or designation of heroism from the American government.
He is more heroic and valuable to our country (hate countries, hate imaginary lines in the dirt that people die over) than any 500 cons put together or 100 liberals, for that matter.
BTW this is not about me worrying about communism or something stupid like that. I just know what a criminal he is and given the power he has it is a big issue.

(1,370 posts)There's nothing you've stated that I disagree with.
RT promoting Moore's film, whether it might help Putin or not in the bigger picture we're just slicing hairs my friend...

(3,714 posts)There'd be no material for Putin to use, would there?
No stupid fuckwit acts commited; no associated propaganda to use.
The answer then is for the USA to get their shit together. Putin isn't forcing the USA to do stupid shit.

I have in the past spent weeks at a time doing nothing but defending him when others allege that he misleads and lies, which he has never done.

(14,165 posts)OF COURSE the RT stations outside of Russia hire activist hosts that are critical of the US oligarchy and all the implications that feed from that. Of COURSE you will hear stories that make those in power in the USA uncomfortable. That is enough for Putin. Putin is smart enough to just allow left leaning journalists free reign knowing they will come across as more legitimate if they actually are free to speak to any issue (on America). And OF COURSE they do not balance it with equal bashing of the Russian oligarchy. But so what..as long as the information is truthful and are stories we wouldn't get on American networks that know their access to the Whitehouse can be pulled any time.
If you want to hear about how bad Putin is, there are plenty of avenues for that..every night on American TV news. Abby Martin was, for years, dismissed as an arm of Putin for the same reasons. Her show was awesome and packed with good information. Its hilarious how now that Thom Hartmann has a show how much more deference he is given.
If anyone criticizes Thom or Abby and says they are just an arm of Putin, then I would hope they also "take with a grain of salt" Rachel Maddow and the rest of the people on General Electric's MSNBC. GE, one of, if not the largest, MIC arms producers on the planet.

(16,286 posts)I despise the Koch's beyond the definition of the word and believe they are terrorists and their actions kill people.
But, I think Putin is a greater threat to actual annihilation of the human race.
As are some folks in the ME...and to be fair some folks in the USA
But I will NEVER be a Putin apologist or supporter in anyway and anyone who is , well, they are very confused

(7,321 posts)Apart from several different regimes in various countries within the African Continent, and other parts of the world which is not often given the deserved attention where human atrocities have been taken place, does one need to be reminded of the atrocities administered by the Bush/Cheney administration? Though they've been "out of power" for almost a decade, their evil policies continue. If you're older than 10 years old, you should know this. So, please.

(7,808 posts)I've been a Michael Moore fan since Roger & Me. I was in Flint, MI, when it was being filmed and I knew a couple people in it (Dan the Taco Bell manager and Deputy Fred). I first heard of him when he got elected to the school board in Davison, MI, and later when he ran a counterculture newspaper. He has a calling to be proud of.

(7,888 posts)RT is a propaganda tool, as is all of Russian media under Putin. For example, you can google or search youtube, a few weeks ago or so RT ran a video of a "reported" Afgan translator, with blue eyes, stuck in Calais trying to cross into England with the help of his British handler. The last RT report on the topic said the Afgan translator had been shot and killed in Calais.
Did the RT reporting result in an assassin's bullet?

(45,788 posts)Michael Moore's new film -- kept under wraps until Tuesday, July 28 -- will get its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
The Flint native said in a Twitter message that "Where to Invade Next" was selected as a special festival presentation.

(300 posts)Hollywood has apparently learned how to marginalize Michael Moore. His 2009 film Capitalism A Love Story was barely released, grossing only $14 million and played very few theaters. Its opening weekend gross was $230,000.
