Wed Sep 2, 2015, 02:34 PM

We have to put out every effort to register working class people, especially minorities and get them to the polls. I am convinced that it is our only hope of savaging the situation. Everyone of their candidates are worthless liars. We can't expect any significant changes until the Democrats control both the senate and house.

It doesn't matter one iota if either Sanders or Clinton wins if the Democrats are in the minority in either the senate of house. I view the extensive concentration here on DU concerning the nomination of who is to be candidate for presidency is ignoring the crucial issue concerning the of control of the congress. If President Obama's presidency has taught Democrats anything it is that the Republicans will destroy the nation before they will support any bipartisanship.

Furthermore it has been a folly how the Democrats have allowed the Republicans to dominate local and state elections. Candidates for local, state and national positions should not forfeit the stage in regard to the powerful evangelical block and stress the basic teaching of Jesus of his primary teaching that we are or brother's keeper. They should forcibly challenge the Republicans disregard of the needy even to their point of disparaging them as lowly parasites.

The party needs to clean house at the national level and install people who have a vision beyond getting their butts reelected so they can feed at the trough. If Sanders' campaign has glaringly displayed it is the massive resentment that the rank and file have for the majority of their representatives.

Check your facts. The idea that the US was ever no. 1 is a pseudo-patriotic myth which the right wing accepts as reality.

OK, maybe at the height of WWII, when much of Europe was in ruins, education was not as high a priority for them. But I'll bet the first international studies comparing educational systems took place much later -- like the Sixties, when America came out looking pretty bad, mostly because of poverty. It was the Kennedy/Johnson social programs which led to improvements in American primary education, and their subsequent repudiation by Republican Congresses and Presidents (think RR here), together with ever-more-drastic budget cuts by local Repugs, which have caused the decline.

Hell, I know regular folks on my street that think like this and would stubbornly defend their knowledge, no matter what. Sometimes, we here at DU have to step back and remind ourselves that we're in a relative minority - what with our thinking, reasoning minds. There's a LOT of determined skull-duncery away from the glow of our monitors. And much of that entrenched stupidness is just too comfy to bother to crawl out of!

Republicans take the phrases, "the winner writes the history" and "perception is reality" to the point where they actually believe they can create reality through their vote.

They really believe there are two completely viable realities and you can choose which one you want by voting and through the Triumph Of The Will they can make Obama a foreigner.

Exactly what many think about

That portion of society is very controlled by what can be considered the

“Republican Mental Button”,

Media driven ditto heads, Rush Limbaugh sheep, that are Orson Well wonders that believe the radio magic or the bible regardless who prints it. And there is nothing you can do about things because it will be argued God makes it that way, through Media "Idolatry" Reagan/ Schwarzenegger Hollywood worship, commercial glitz for gouging services or commodities.

That is precisely the no child left behind concepts. These adult Republican mental buttons are those that are within every once a product of diminished educational reasoning.

These Republican mental buttons cannot think for themselves or use abstract reasoning that will improve society, only war will benefit with grief, excessive taxes, or torture, sacrifice committed to resilience in a predator pray economy.

Republican mental buttons will vote against their interest all the while flying off the cliff, or disregard climate change, or really misunderstand Health Care or that renewable fuel is going to be the future, or that waterboarding is not torture. Or bailing out rich people is the normal thing to do, but its wrong.

Half the country is mentally backwards. Herbert Walker Bush in his time once said about thirty percent fall into that category, Romney in his time was right when he said that forty seven percent are of that character too

Indeed America is headed for warp drive...Beam them out via the vote.

Wed Sep 2, 2015, 05:32 PM
Sep 2015

The republitards have worked overtime to attract the nation's ultra-religious, and this is the product. These are people who believe that the world was created 6000 years ago, so we already know that a world of facts isn't really their domain. They believe Obama's a Muslim because they want to believe he's a Muslim. And just like some of their outrageous beliefs about science, they don't give a shred whether they can or cannot produce an iota of proof. The proof is inside their imagination, and their beliefs about the world are far more important than facts. In fact the world of facts is a terrifying one and it's a world that isn't to be trusted or believed. They trust facts that support their views, but the facts that don't must be a trick of the devil, used in an obvious attempt to destroy their faith.

This is why Bill Maher's awesome. Yes, he's an arrogant prick, but it's for a noble cause. People who are that thick need to be mocked and ridiculed, and they need to be ashamed of having a mind that's no more advanced than some cave dweller from 20,000 years ago. It's this sort of bat shit insanity that leads to abortion clinic attacks and the meaningless destruction of Palmyra.

that their ignorance and belief in incorrect information is just as valid as proven fact and logic.

If they were told by the propagandists that the sky was yellow and Obama simply renamed the color as blue, they'd firmly believe that and no mountain of historical evidence defining the sky as blue would dissuade them. In fact, they'd claim persecution and start personally attacking people who pointed out that they were factually wrong.

First, let me say I think Trump and his followers are idiots. And the birther movement smacks of racism. And the republicans in general are corrupt evil and stupid. Ok? We clear?

But....in the defence of logic and basic reason skills I feel I have to point out: a picture of president Obama attending church in the state where he says he was born does not prove that he is a Christian, or that he was, in fact, born in that state. No more than a picture of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon proves that he was born on the moon or is an alien life form.

I'm sorry, I love laughing at idiots as much as the next guy, and the survey results in the op does indeed show that many repugs are truely truely delusional idiots, but the accompanying photo does not in fact prove anything and in fact claims to the contrary makes us look like the foolish ones.

As in: "hey, here's a picture of Obama in church! That PROVES he can't be a Muslim!!!".

As I said, being a bit of a logic nazi here...

On the one hand, the President is known to practice a fairly liberal and ecumenical version of Protestant Christianity.

On the other hand, his middle name is "Hussein."

Yeah, this sure is a tough question to answer!
