of US bases in the world and the Middle East, from the interview with David Vine, from his new book "Base Nation". He mentions that the official Pentagon count of 686 external bases in 63 countries (179 in Germany!) does not count all the "lily-pads" and "co-operative security locations".
Surprised to learn that Okinawa was not handed over to Japanese jurisdiction until 1972.
Nice mention of Smedley Butler. too.
