. . . who lives in the same house in which I grew up. 45 years ago, my parents had a really nice 40' x 20' pool built, and it is still in good shape after all of these years. Anyway we were sitting on the patio, which is up a flight of stairs from the pool, when suddenly a black lab, whom none of us knew or recognized, appeared on the patio. As if on a mission, he trotted right past all of us on the patio, proceeded down the stairs, jumped in at one end of the pool and swam the length of it. Then he got out, shook himself off, and came back up to the patio to visit. He was really quite a lovely dog. It was a blisteringly hot day, so I guess he just needed to cool off! Turned out he belonged to a family that lived some blocks away.

(We did notice, however, that he had a rather distinctive odor about him that indicated he had tried to become perhaps a bit too friendly with a skunk. Poor guy was probably facing a tomato juice bath when he got home!)
