TYT: America Feels The Bern: Bernie Sanders Now Front-Runner

Some say we shouldn’t take Bernie Sanders seriously. The problem with that is: Bernie Sanders is the frontrunner as it stands today. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said on Thursday that he was "stunned" to see recent polls that showed him gaining ground on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in key primary states.

A Quinnipiac poll released on Thursday showed that Sanders and Clinton in a virtual tie in Iowa after Sanders had trailed her by 19 percentage points in early July. A recent poll also showed Sanders leading Clinton by 7 percentage points in New Hampshire.

"You want me to tell you the truth?...Yes, I'm stunned," Sanders told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Thursday. Look, we have a message that I believed from day one was going to resonate with the American people. ... Did I think (the issues) would resonate as quickly as they have? The answer is no.””*

Leading in some primary states could lead to him becoming the front-runner, but he isn't there yet.

and it will show them to be negligent. The country will be amazed and check him out. Cenk has been in politics forever. I think he's right.

...and there's a looooooong distance between "he's up by one in one poll five months ahead of the primary" and "he wins Iowa and NH". Even if he were to win, that wouldn't cement a front-runner status if Hillary isn't campaigning heavily for those states and still has large leads in fundraising and national polls.

Note that McCain lost four of the first six contests in 2008 (including tying for third place with Fred Thompson in Iowa) - and both of the states that he won of those six were very tight contests.

Cenk has been in politics forever.

Hardly. He's a relative newcomer (and was originally a conservative). Note that in his analysis of the 2008 race, it didn't matter what the polling or news said... McCain was the clear front-runner to him because he had all the money. He's not applying the same logic to this analysis.

If Cenk had really "been in politics forever", he would know that this isn't anything new. Candidates who are trailing significantly in national polling pull out all the stops to try to win the early primaries (particularly NH), in the hopes that the win will get them new donors and free media coverage to revitalize their campaigns. If the front-runner seriously contests those states, it CAN work, but is by no means a guarantee. McCain tried it in 2000 and won big in NH... but it didn't help. Tom Harkin slaughtered Bill Clinton in IA in '92... and then Tsongas beat him badly in NH. In fact, Clinton only won one of the first dozen states. Pat Buchanan won three of the first four primaries in '96 (and Steve Forbes won the next two) - but it was all Bob Dole from there.

your support is in the 25% range. I am not saying that as a Hillary supporter it just is the way it is.
I listened to Bernie on MSNBC last night for a bit. He sounded very up beat and not at all tired from his campaign travels. I am 69 and he had more energy than I do. Happy belated birthday Bernie from a Hillary supporter.
