floor causes them to drown. Probably poring sandy water into their gills does not help either. Holding the shark in the swimming position, along side the boat, may bring it back. Sharks are known for chasing prey up on the beach or on the water's edge. It must have gotten caught on a sandbar as the tide was rolling out.

the fish could have had a totally different encounter with humans - had it's dorsal fin hacked off for soup makin's and tossed back into the briny to die.

It was much smaller than this one. It had been dead for a while and someone had cut off its tail and cut its teeth out. (It may or may not have still had its fins, but I specifically remember the tail was gone) I'm glad to see things have progressed a little since then.
