Related: About this forumPrice Gouging Drug CEO Is The Donald Trump Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Martin Shkreli, the 32-year-old CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, has steered his company into some controversy this week when it was revealed that they would be raising the price of the drug Daraprim from $13.50 to $750, a near 5000% increase in price. Greed in the pharmaceutical industry is nothing new, but with this story, it is hitting the media like it never has before.
Ring of Fires Sam Seder and Farron Cousins discuss this.

Lets take a look, shall we?

The personality disorder obviously comes in different varieties although certain traits are consistent like selfishness, inability to empathize with others, feelings of grandiosity and power and the desire to be admired. Try to stay away and run for your life if you encounter one especially a psychopath type.

(6,133 posts)It has been a late interest of mine, trying to understand the psychopath. I wish that I had started earlier. It should be taught in schools, (early education) because most people would not even imagine how they think and realize how destructive they are.
One thing I will always remember now is how they think we are prey and they are the predators. They don't belong in proper society.

(41,113 posts)as early as childhood. They are predators and opportunists first class and the damage they wreak can mess up a person for years. Until the last few years I never saw much attention to narcissist and psychopath personality disorders which would have been tremendously helpful rather than learning from experience.
In the past the term psychopath was mostly limited to sadistic torturers and killers I think which eludes a far greater number of these destructive individuals walking around undetected in everyday life.

(2,212 posts)If you haven't seen them already, Google the letters and Facebook messages this guy sent the wife and children of a former colleague of his with whom he had a financial disagreement. He goes on at great length describing her "poor excuse of a husband" and how he will "stop at nothing" to see that she and the children lose their house and are destitute. He even used social media to contact the man's elderly father and rant at length about what a despicable human being his son was.
I was repulsed by his behavior in the interviews and thought he was a sociopath. After reading the letters and Facebook postings, I'm certain of it.

Sales and business are a couple main fields that narcissists and psychopaths go into, for reason. CONS, cut throat, lacking empathy, often highly intelligent and personable which are necessary for being successful liars and more.
They're predators and destroyers, not creators for certain.

(8,175 posts)Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli said on Tuesday that he would not go through with his plan to raise the price of the anti-cancer drug Daraprim to $750 per pill, NBC News reported.
It is absolutely a reaction, Shkreli said of the circumstances behind the decision. There were mistakes made with respect to helping people understand why we took this action. I think that it makes sense to lower the price in response to the anger that was felt by people.
...
According to NBC, the drug will return to its former price within the next few weeks. The self-trained biologist, as Shkreli described himself, had also said that the increase was necessary for the company to even be mildly profitable, arguing that the money raised would go toward developing similar drugs with fewer side effects.
Its very easy to see a large drug price increase and say Gosh those people must be gouging,' he said. But when you find out the company is not making any money, what does that mean? Its very hard stuff to understand.

I thought the company he bought it from was making 5 million or 5 billion a year. What does he mean it wasn't making a profit?

Yeah, right..it's because of the political climate.
You should see what they are saying about him on reddit...and I don't do facebook or twitter or any social media like that but he's getting pounded! Thank dog for social media.

(41,113 posts)you'll see. He deserves everything said about him and more from what I saw! Bernie was super on the need and ways to lower US drug prices, via Medicare Part D mainly I think, like the rest of the advanced world! despite Big Pharma's power and claims that no 'the market will regulate cost' (not govt.) which Chris brought up.
As you may know, Bernie has been involved with this issue for years like taking VT cancer patients (esp. breast cancer) and others to buy meds in Canada for 1/10th the US cost since 1999, as he brought up tonight. Very good discussion.
