A woman in Connecticut sued her nephew for hugging her too hard causing her to break her wrist. She attended his birthday party and the young boy excited to see his aunt ran to hug her. She sustained the injury and is suing for $127,000. But not is all as it seems. Her insurance is only covering $1 of her medical bills. This is what is causing her to sue. The case of the aunt who sued her young nephew over a reckless birthday hug, may have hinged on a plate of hors doeuvres.
Jennifer Connell, who claimed the 8-year-old boy was negligent when he jumped in her arms, knocked her down and broke her wrist, testified last week the injury made it hard for her to hold a plate of hors doeuvres.
At least one juror wrinkled her nose at that explanation.
We just didnt think the boy was negligent, said the juror, who declined to be identified as she left the courthouse.
It only took 20 minutes Tuesday for six Superior Court jurors to decide Connell, 54, deserved zero in her civil claim against the boy.

(16,296 posts)Once had a neighbor who sued everyone for everything. Got to the point where he was excluded from any community or neighborhood event and if he did show up no one offered him food , drink or even a place to sit. He was told more than once to leave an event because of his antics. Sued my next door neighbor when she gave him tea and he "burned" his mouth on it and another because - get this - the sun's reflection from that neighbors house beamed into his across the street bedroom window, depriving him of his afternoon nap.

(11,904 posts)She could have always said it was an accident at home.
The hospital and insurance company tried really hard to get me to say that my fall walking my dog was due to the neighbors, street condition, etc. In truth it was me losing my balance running downhill in the rain trying to choke up on the leash of a dog chasing a raccoon. I tripped over the edge of our driveway. It was an ACCIDENT, and so was her injury. Six months later, I'm still in PT, my broken and dislocated shoulder has healed, but I find out that I also tore my rotator cuff.
I go in for surgery after the first of the year, then back for another 3 months of PT (this will be the 3rd time starting from no mobility), so I can understand how she might require multiple surgeries for something that seems rather simple.
