(43,049 posts)that guy started talking about "winners".

(75 posts).... The gentleman's use of the term "winner" is what depressed me the most... Colloquial myopia reinforced through association of a generic concept of what it takes to be a respected citizen... I believe Mr Sanders has a better chance of overcoming this mindset once the sparkle wears thin on their favored candidate...

(73 posts)I believe the first use of the phrase "taking our country back" hearkens back to 60s. It was used by the KKK in their opposition to the civil rights movement. It the shoe fits, wear it!

(75 posts)... enlighten this very type of thinking... I believe in due time his straightforwardness will attract many Trumpanistas....Those of us on the ground level need to keep the information flowing wrt the true nature of current events... Best Wishes

(2,672 posts)plus right wing hate radio will do that to people with a closed mindset.
I've tried talking to people like that couple with nothing but facts and they were having none of it. Their minds are like traps, once they get a hold of hate, paranoia, and right wing misinformation, they won't let go.

(1,782 posts)The man says, "The smallest minorities in this country are ruling what takes place. And the quiet majority folks . . . . are just voiceless. And that has to stop."
I can't disagree with him. I don't agree that the problem is religious minorities kicking Santa out of public schools, but I completely understand his sense of powerlessness against invisible forces.
Maybe people like that come from a real sense of powerlessness but in groping for its source they latch onto what they hear from Fox.

(75 posts)..... Aside from the rhetorical knee-jerk reactions I feel the gentleman's sense of powerlessness can be attributed to his awareness of the "known unknowns" of the oligarchy.... 1%ers such as it is.... Mr Sanders is correct by addressing these issues head on and utilizing Mr Trumps persona as the nexus of their discontent...Mrs Clinton not so much.... Best wishes and a blessed new year
